I started to take the cover off this morning. Looked it over and decided its too much to take off and while I'm still under a load.. I'm going to wait until after I get unloaded tomorrow morning and then just head over to CAT and let them tell me where it came from and if anything needs fixed.
Still running fine. Other than stressing about where that nut came from.. nothing else that would indicate a problem.
I appreciate the help and comments. I couldnt ask for better folks to assist me with this.

How many Oil changes have you done since your inframe??
I reckon It got in your Oil pan whilst your Inframe was being done, & whoever put it back on was a little hasty/careless & didn't properly check it before reinstalling..
I say this because that's exactly what happened to Me many years ago. With a CAT Motor that had had a recent bearing Roll..Hurst Thanks this. -
I would be more concerned about the valve adjustment you said just had done.
Hurst Thanks this. -
Here is a picture under valve cover. The nuts that hold the VVA on are course thread and the nut for the valve adjusters are fine.
This is the truck I have in the shop where the adjustment nut came off and then the bridge turned sideways and bent two valves. -
There is only one place a nut like that will come from on a cat. The hold down nuts for the vva's and or jake housings. No where else in a cat engine do they use that Style nut, NO WHERE! yes that could of migrated to the pan from the top. Pull valve covers and eyeball the studs to see if any nuts are missing. Also look at the adjusting nuts for valve train and jake to see if any are missing. If not then just ride driver, just ride!MACK E-6, truckthatpassesyouby and Hurst Thank this.

I agree with Ristow. Stop at a dealer and compare.

Hurst has a bigger nut than in the photo.
Hurst Thanks this.
