You want to stay close to home. Jersey offers a number of local work thankfully.

If you did not have a child to deal with, then OTR would do well. But wait about 20 years before you go running off. By then your position might parlay into some really good bennies.

    Skipper2256 Thanks this.

Hey Chinatown it's been awhile , hope all is well. I am still in Korea but closer to moving back to Indiana. Do you know if Old Dominion hires new grads in Indianapolis ?
I have not been on here for a long time and will do some more research but seen this and thought I would say hello and ask about them.
I think there was a guy on here that got on out of school and drove with a guy to Nashville and back on a dedicated from Indy. That might be something to check out.
    Take care !!!

Old d is a great company. If I was you because of your experience I would start out linehaul. It's all night running but it's terminal to terminal. P and d (pickup and delivery) you will be bumping 20-30 docks a day and navigating through traffic 10 or more hours a day.

Honestly they may not let fresh grads do p and d

Hello Dennis; yes Old Dominion hires new cdl grads and as @Lucy in the Sky posted, go with linehaul. P&D (pickup & delivery) is all city work and not worth it.
Also, maybe get a job hauling mail with Sodrel. Check their website. They have a cdl school.
Old Dominion linehaul would probably be better, but either in a pinch.
Yep, time to get back to the states. Sure hope Trump is President by then.

    Skipper2256 and dennisroc Thank this.

Thanks for the info Chinatown , yeah been living here in Korea over 10 years now and thinking about getting my CDL and see what the best job I can come up with in that area.

By " linehaul " is that just dedicated routes or different routes maybe just there and back to different places.
OTR might be ok also but would really like some home time in Indiana.

If Hillary wins we will probably head to our retirement home in the Philippines...... haha !!!

Line haul is terminal to terminal drop & hook. Usually, take a set of doubles from Indy to Nashville, for example, drop them & hook up to another set then back to Indy and go home. Take a break and do it again.

I think so too. Line haul is a good job for drivers that don't want to live on the road and want good home time.
