I've seen pictures of cut off toes from steel toe however this particular case was bad enough that his toes are the least of his worries.
I've also seen in person steel toes dented in really bad from impacts.
It's rare but it does happen.
Both are better than no safety toe at all

I'm required to wear safety toe boots now, but before that I always preferred comfortable Gore-Tex waterproof hiking boots because of some of the conditions we find ourselves in out there.
You'll invariably find yourself in a muddy lot some day, or just in a parking lot during a heavy rain, wishing you had something more substantial than the soggy sneakers you're wearing.
If you go with flip flops or slippers, use a hammer to check tires--don't kick them. And don't drop the hammer.lagbrosdetmi Thanks this. -
I second whites boots, whites also makes Hawthorne boots. The boots are manufactured out of Spokane. I have a pair of Hawthorne lacer boots that I purchased 23 years ago, and still holding together.Weeezerd, speedyk and Bob Dobalina Thank this.

Well, apparently y'all take this footwear thing seriously so I will too.
When things are sketchy I slip on my 25-30 year old Red Wing linemen climbing boots that lace up just below my knees. They are double thick in the top and inside of the foot for climbing spikes (which I've never worn in my life) but all that leather has saved my ### so many times when moving heavy steel, torching or generally putting my feet in harms way. Great support too. I don't think it would be possible to turn an ankle with these on! I think they go for about $350-400 now, but back in the day, if memory serves, I paid about $260 custom fit to my crooked feet.
NOT A BETTER BOOT ON THE PLANET!!!!
(not my actual boots, stolen image!)
Carolina makes a decent pair of lineman boots too that are a bit cheaper if you can wear a standard size.Attached Files:

I have an old pair of Whites, they were the smoke jumpers and are still in perfect condition. Probably the best made boots out there.
KriegHund Thanks this.
