Advice For Small Carrier Seeking Drivers

    Hello, all.

    I work for a small four truck auto hauling operation with a home terminal located in northern Florida. Two of our trucks are being driven by very reliable and dependable professionals but we've been having a lot of trouble keeping the other two trucks staffed. Our company pays well, the drivers are not kept away from the home terminal for extended periods of time and there is always work available. Would anyone have any suggestions as to how we might continue to look for qualified, conscientious drivers to fill our remaining two trucks? If anyone here is interested in one of our vacant spots, please don't hesitate to let me know.

    What does 'pays well' mean, exactly? Some think that a $600 paycheck is good money, while others won't get out of bed for less than $2k.

    We only hire referrals/friends of our current drivers.

    And it's still a shooting match.

    And some folks look at the entire compensation package as a whole - benefits, health insurance, paid vacation, holiday pay, etc. The OP is painting with a broad stroke of the brush regarding pay.

    Market Research, identify what the other Carriers are paying. Then, stake out major Truck Stop, actively look for drivers whom work for those Carriers where their pay is less than yours.

    Humbling, truth that you need to make direct eye contact with a driver and sell yourself.

    Start with simple bribery, ten dollars cash and drivers time for a employment application & your spell. ;) (play the numbers game, 100 employment apps, its a goal.)
