Apparently there is such fuse in Volvo and yes it turns EVERYTHING off.No problem with the truck, guess this fuse was simply old .I hit a bump on the road, dashboard lights flickered for few seconds then EVERYTHING went off.Replaced that fuse and EVERYTHING worked.

If you experience a blow tire almost every day, you need to work on your petrip skills.:p

OK, I've never been in a simulator, so I didn't know that. I just know that I've heard them highly praised.
Moral of the story is avoid bumps? On a serious note here, that sounds like it's extremely dangerous!
I lost a main fuse on a motorcycle over on the coast on a narrow mountain road on a foggy night. I know how happy I was NOT with that! I can just imagine what it'd be like in a big truck on a busy freeway!

Mack, I think it's a great idea. The problem is it would only save a couple hundred lives a year and those lives would be truck drivers, so FMCSA would never go for it. However, if it could be presented in a way that it would save tons of 4-wheelers tons of time by not getting caught up in traffic back-ups, FMCSA would require it starting Monday.

The method similar to a video game wasn't what I had in mind, and I'd have to agree on that being pretty much useless for that purpose.

What I'm thinking of would require an actual modified truck.

I can't figure how to do it though without it costing a boatload of money. In order to make it somewhat cost effective it would have to be able to replicate as many of the catastrophic type of failures as possible.

This site gave me the info on what to do in a steer tire blow out and I actually remembered it. There is so much info on this site and a lot of bs to sift through. Hopefully new guys will see this thread title and read part of it and learn something.

I read quite often that we need higher levels of training and credentials to become a truck driver to improve the quality of the drivers out here.

If you look at the old days it was quite the opposite however. Virtually no formal training existed and noone had ever heard of a CDL. No truck driving schools to help you get one either. Drivers were safer than ever despite the far less capable equipment. No jake brakes, power steering or air ride and much more.

Drivers weren't advertised for as much and it was #### tough to become one. You had to really want it and get in with the right guys. You figured it out fast and worked your damndest or you were out quick. Consequently the majority of truck drivers loved driving a truck. This lifestyle has always been a labor of love. No amount of money can turn you into a truck driver.

The problem we have today is the big corporations advertise a driver shortage to keep the CDL mills running and the cheap labor coming to churn through every 6 months to support their low cost business model.

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here beating on the megas, but the byproduct of this is the drivers out here today have lost the love and the passion for this work that will always be a labor of love until the robots take over.

Until we get guys out here again that have love and passion for their work nothing will improve. No amount of money will make a regular guy into a truck driver. It's gotta be in ya.

I've been down almost 2 weeks now doing a motor and tranny swap into my W9. All I can think about is trucking. Watch trucking youtube videos. Drove by the truck stop just to look at the trucks. Don't do much, but think about trucks and look forward to when I can get back to truckin here in a couple days. Money can't buy that kind of love.

There is a training school that will blow steer tires with det cord...

I would love to go to that school and do some skid pad training.

I witnessed and was a first responder to a bad 4-wheeler rollover last February, westbound I-70 just west of Limon, CO.
The driver hit the brakes when the tire blew and immediately went sideways offroading, flipped twice and then twice again. Two ejected (without seat belts) and one stayed in the car. Life flight for one ejectee (car rolled on him) and ambulance for the other two.

DON'T hit the brakes! Stay on the throttle and you will have control. Make a HABIT of having both hands on the wheel.

MACK I had the same thought. It would be like skid pad training (which I would LOVE to take!).

I think they have a couple of those around the country for big trucks even
