Hi Chinatown. Britton also has a van/reefer division based in Grand Forks, ND. But we are an OTR company and hire all over. Either division is great to work for.

I filled out the online app for Britton, I selected reefer... I'm thinking if I didn't care for reefer they might let me switch to their flatbed division, without having to quit and go to a different company. I don't want to be a job hopper.

@kwswan I tried calling Womack Trans the number listed on FB seems to be a fax line. I might drive down there tomorrow or Monday. I'm guessing that someone will be around the yard.

Turns out I'm out of A&R Logistics hiring area according to their website (100 MI) from Jackson, TN. I'm around 250 miles out. I called and left a message anyway and haven't heard back.

Thanks again everyone for the help and advice.

I like how some drivers make their end of the trucking business sound like the only #### to do, and every other job is for chumps.

Some good points made though. I have a lot to agree with about reefer sucking bad. I have no problem doing it for the right money. Sadly though, reefer companies and their customers have made a pet project out of screwing drivers over.

Flatbed is no picnic in that department either. I love the work, but far too many shysters running flatbed companies think they can get away with only paying $20 in tarp fees. However, it is easier to find good flatbed companies and customers easier then good reefer.

Hi Mattacracker. You are correct. If you come to Britton, they will let you change to flatbed later. I personally haven't tried to switch divisions. Pretty happy here pulling flatbed. If you have any specific questions that Kassi doesn't answer when you talk to her, send me a pm. Ill be glad to tell what I know, or find out if I don't know.

I used to work for TMC too. Was there almost 17 years. From May 94 to Feb 2011. There are a few things about them I miss. I didn't know I'd miss them till after I left. The main reason I left TMC is their freight lanes changed too much for someone living in South Dakota. And I didn't see things changing back. So after a couple years of poor home time, I moved on.

Reefer ? Yuk ! I pulled a reefer for 30 years and last January 1st switched to flatbed .
Yeah it's dirty , sweaty and requires physical excerise but I'm yet to miss 3am appointments , standing in line behind 20 other drivers in a cold meat dock at 3am to check in with the jerk that tells me my appointment don't mean jack and wel call ya on the cb , so go take a nap and keep your ear on the radio .
Then theres the joy of checking in at a produce house in that nice shack that looks they keep sheep in it on the off season .
And let's not forget os@d ..lumpers ...and no you can't park here but don't you dare be late !
The reefer biz can kiss my aching arse !

Not a single reefer driver has posted about how great his job is in this thread, I'm thinking you flatbedders chased 'em all off... Or it is that bad!
I was reading in a reefer thread that the temperature you haul product in will determine if the job sucks or not. Frozen vs produce, I wouldn't know, but luckily I have this site and I'm learning thanks to the people that post here.
My thought was reefer would have consistent freight year round and be something new to try out. You guys really have put doubt in my decision.
@MrEd Thanks for the offer. I'm not missing TMC, but I am missing being out on the road. Filthy truck stops, unflushed toilets, over-flowing trash cans, old fried food, morons doing a 10hr break @ the fuel island, idiot 4wheelers, traffic, no parking..... I must have lost my ######g mind!

Another way of looking at it is if you pull a reefer you can work your way up to...

    ... pulling more reefer loads.

If you pull flatbed you can work your way up to oversize and overweight loads, pulling a variety of trailers. HWH pays very well.

I see Lonestar is hiring for HH/OD, I believe they are a good company. I'm going to apply there today.
