You quoted me just to say your inverter is 4 yrs old?
Here is the problem with them,..
Try running a 1000 watt micrwave on the Cobra. You will hear the Microwave hum from the lack of amplification that non synwave inverters have. Another test,.. turn a fan on high. Then turn on a regular coffee maker. The fan will start to hum and slow down.
Cobras work and do what they are. I would never plug anything that could be damaged by alternating/voltage surge into it.

That's not how you figure it, you left off overhead, which is anywhere between 3% and 20% of the power consumed. So a 3000 watt inverter may be using up to 3600 watts of power, so add that into it.
Now you also have to add a surge number into it, if you are running it at capacity. So that means if you are using 2000 watts for everything and you got a microwave that is 1000 watts, you now have to add an additional 200 watts for the startup of the microwave. But if you do this, you should get a generator.
By the way it is just easier to take the wattage and divide it by the voltage. In this case with the top end of the overhead at 12 volts the amperage needed to run it at 3600 watts is 300 amps.Barbeque Thanks this. -
Thats the way you learn it nice hint for you

Not many at all. Just enough to push a crock pot. I was able to run a steamer for my veggies and the crock pot at the same time. And now just the steamer will pop a fuse.

Awesome, thanks. I bought this thing a year ago but just put it in a few weeks ago. Lol already popped 3 fuses.

Freshly blown.

I know they are expensive (about $2000), but if you are requiring 3000 watts for an inverter, then I would steer you the way of a pure sine inverter/charger like what Hurst is referring to. You can plug into shore power and get a 150 amp charge. It automatically switches to the shore power or inverter modes. You can also use it with your generator/apu for consistent, reliable power. Some electronics are sensitive to the modified sine wave inverters and you will damage them with long term use, if you can even get them to work at all.
These are reliable and well worth the increased prices. In another month, you'll have paid the difference in all those expensive fuses you keep blowing!!! -
I use this style of fuse and holder. Only larger amperage.

They have some affordable ones. I only paid $700 for mine (Free shipping with Amazon Prime). Its 4000watt,.. 3000 continuous. And yes,.. I also have a Honda EU3000is generator that I switch everything over to when I shut the truck down for rest.

I'm using a relay (Breaker style) that looks similar to your bottom pic. Coming directly off my batteries. 250amp. I've never had it trip. But supposed to trip when it gets hot. Then reset itself once cooled down.
