So, I'm not a driver, but my husband is. We relocated to Indiana... (you know, that US Xpress ad) and I would suggest not doing that. They don't keep up their end of the deal on the guarantee, days off, bonuses, nothing. So, my husband, who has 12 months experience, went to Hogan. Again...no. Broken down trucks guaranteed to get you a ticket, with little or no maintenance. The pay isn't anywhere near what the recruiter said. So here we are, struggling to pay bills, because bills here are way more than we anticipated. It's a waaay higher cost of living here than where we were from.

I know there isn't a magic company that takes care of their drivers very well. I'm learning that. What are some good driving companies here in northeast Indiana that make decent money without screwing over their drivers? He really doesn't want to go back OTR and I don't want him to either, but this dedicated stuff isn't turning out the way the recruiters say.

I've been reading this forum for a bit now and picked up a few things, and you guys seem to know what you are talking about, so any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm too new to be of much help, but I feel for your situation. It seems like an awfully dirty dishonest business, with just enough good folks in it to keep it running.

That's how trucking is,they promise you the moon but they don't deliver. If they were actually honest they wouldn't find any drivers.Recruiters are the last ppl you wanna believe. You need to remember recruiters are sales ppl. Most have never drove truck and doesn t know how miles the driver gets or anything else between driver and dispatch.

You picked two of the worst companies to drive for.
Can you ride with him or do you need to stay home?
Are you near Ft. Wayne or which city are you near?

Line haul jobs are really good if there's a terminal within a reasonable distance to you in Indiana or Ohio/Michigan.
    Old Dominion
    Estes Express Lines
    Saia
    Does he have any endorsements?

No, I have to stay home. I would team, but I can't even back my Dodge Truck properly in a Walmart parking spot, LOL! Yes, near Fort Wayne. No endorsements. We were told First Fleet is a good company...but...I dunno.

Excuse my French, but First Fleet sucks. They have a terminal in Bluffton though. You can do much better.
Big-G Express - @tow614 can fill you in on this company. I'm going to guess $60K is attainable, but tow614 has the straight scoop on that outfit. Home every weekend or most weekends.

Are you under any contract where you will owe for the relocation fee if you leave? I'd leave anyway and worry about that later.
Let me dig around and see what else I can come up with. With 12 months experience there's some real good outfits he qualifies for.

No, there's no relocation fee. There was a bonus, but that wasn't paid, so I don't see how they can charge for it. LOL! The first fleet job is the one out of Bluffton, a dedicated account for Kroger. Thank you for looking around for us. :)

The Waggoners Trucking Company - hauling sprinter vans on a flatbed. They claim $1300.00 weekly take home. I do know part of their pay is based on how many vans you deliver.
Holland - Ft. Wayne - this is a division of YRC Worldwide. day cabs
    YRC Freight
Lone Star Transportation - heavy haul. Reputation is they're the best flatbed outfit around.
Ashley Distribution Services - haul furniture. Some of those drivers make $70K plus or minus a little.
NTB Trucking - refrigerated company servicing Meier stores.
Marshall Grain Transport - hopper bottom - home daily - I've never done that and can't see how the paychecks can be too big. Plus, what goes on during the off season?
