Well good luck with that! I have read alot of your other posts and found them entertaining.I use to work at Roehl.I switched over to Barr-Nunn.I live in Ohio and they offered me .35 cents per mile for Regional run, home every weekend.Compared to Roehls .30 cents for my experiance level.Roehl is a good company. But I couldn't pass up that Barr-nunn offer.

Thanks. Roehl is a great company to start with, and for many stay with. Like you though, many are lured away by higher pay and I can't blame you. I think Roehl makes up for their lower pay in other ways though.

sorry to hear about your local gig, so much for pre hire.
any way i need that winch bar i have a new gig of my own -
What higher pay?? .30 cents .35cents?? I have been driving since 05. I just started at a union company and they pay me .48 per mile and that is at 85% of total i will be at 100% at around .58 or so soon. PLUS I get paid to fuel and ANY wait time at $19 per hour in 6second intervals. SO ya'll can talk about higher pay all you want and maybe get .38 cents plus not get paid for waiting. IF you are looking for higher pay go get a union job.

Ah labor day...brings out the nutty types. Brings out those that have difficulty understanding that to get his beloved position in Hoffa's merry would require me to move somewhere that his type tend to congregate. Can anyone say "The city". No thanks I will stay out here in my little patch of heaven and work my more or less local job. I will offer thanks to my creator for providing that job to me and allowing me to provide for my family. Heck I will even raise my beer and toast the union guys that got me this paid day off. I may not get as much as them for not working today but living more than two miles from my closest neighbor seems worth it.
JackMac and Dr. Venture Thank this. -
Anyone see the humour in that complaint coming from a union worker? I'd rather not work at a union company, nor support any union. The concept of a union is great, but the execution is what eventually leads to a company going out of business and a bunch of union workers complaining about their retirement package they can't get from the company they ran bankrupt.
Where do all those union fees really go? We all know who the unions benefit the most in the long run. -
Well Ok Cmoore, maybe I should finish the sentence for you.
And Mo-man I have seen you complain about the stupidest stuff, but living in the city or country??? I do live in the city Fort Worth, Texas BUT most of my fellow teamsters live in the country, several drivers I know live on on lakes here in north Texas.
Just to let you know my medical/dental benefits are free! No charge for me and my family. The Teamsters pick that up (They also cover my retirement pension). Oh sorry I do pay $53 a month for dues, so that is, approximately $13 to $14 a week? Hmm so how much do you pay for benefits? Probably around $70 per week. Then you work 14hour days then fudge your 3hour breaks to show your 11hours just to get paid a decent amount.
My original comment about the union was not necessary to defend it but just to let people know there are better paying jobs out there. I live in the "city" mo-man because I can afford to. Other drivers live on the lake because they can afford to. Plus I'm home all the time with the most I'm gone is 4 days then home for 2 unlike before I was a union driver at least out for 12 days and home for 2. Most days are out one day home the next and still get paid WELL my lowest check per week has been $975 and that week I paid my union dues.
So have another beer on your 2 days off mo-man.
The company agrees to and signs the contract, so I get paid according to the contract the Company itself agreed to. Bankrupting the company is not in anyone's interest, do you think the company would sign into an agreement if that agreement were going to bankrupt the company?? -
Lord help us. You read way too much into stuff hammer. Bankrupting companies? Where did that come from? Nevermind not really important. You live in your world and enjoy it and that my newest pen pal is a good thing. I hope you realize all the sucess you have coming to you.
I looked into Hoffa's homely honchos awhile back, really wrote to Lantana and everything. Looked into his suggestions but alas the nearest teamster yard is around three hours away. Kinda defeats the purpose of being home every night if I spent six of them commuting huh? Luckily I do not have the bitter streak that some have. I simply kept looking and found a job that suited my needs. I am home weekends and one to two nights a week.
I am living in my world and am very happy. I am pleased that you have taken it upon yourself to help folks find jobs more suited to their desires. I did enjoy that second beer as you suggested and it was pleasant. Again thanks for the extra day off(That would be three off, Sat, Sun, Mon...you seemed confused about the word extra) let's do it again next year.JackMac Thanks this. -
Hello Everyone,
I have been reading thru all the "Best" forums and think I would settle with Central or Roehl.
Can anyone push me over the edge that will give me a deciding factor of which one to start with?
Thanks,

If that's your final decision.... Roehl. But not knowing how long you've been looking... I would say keep reading. Every time I think I find a great company, I learn something else. Like check out Shaffer and Crete (same company), or TMC, and I am sure there are others that will come to mind with others... also, check out union jobs by going to the job board, find union companies and see where they have openings. They do take newbies if there are no experienced drivers to fill spots. ABF (union) says "approved school graduate or 1 year experience" and no, it does not have to be a union school. Good luck.
