For having to scale and reweight a load 8 times before getting it legal. Starting weight:
    steer 11500
    Drives 31480
    Trailer 36240
    Gross 79220

    Ending weight:
    Steer 11820
    Drives 33800
    Trailer 33620
    Gross 79240

Hauling frozen meat. It came down to moving trailer one notch at a time and fifth wheel one notch at time because one notch one way would put another axle weight over. I felt like a Noob. Got to know the loves attendant very well.

Why did you reweight it 8 times?doesn't make any sense.i would just make trailer axle legal and then worry about moving 5th wheel.3 reweights max.
Next time just count holes, slide (you may be off 1 st time if you not familiar with the trailer),then move 5th wheel if necessary.Moving 5th wheel does NOT affect trailer axle.

Sorry I meant 7 Times plus original weight. Thanks for info on 5th wheel I honestly didn't know that. But the issue was getting the trailer to scale. How could moving the tandems one slot only affect weight by 40lbs. I think the weight distribution in trailer was bad. Almost like there was a lot of weight in the tail and less up front

I would just slide it 10 holes right away and seen what happened.(I always assume 250 per hole). If I would be wrong at least I would find out how many pounds is a hole in this particular trailer.Your problem was trailer axle so you should start with fixing it first.

I think the issue was the weight displacement per hole is what was throwing me off for sure. The affects of sliding one hole were minimal. As you stated I should recorded the results and adjusted accordingly.

You will. When I was hauling the same trailer all the time I often didn't even weight it.If I saw the load distributed evenly in the trailer I was sliding tandems to the point where load ended and was always fine.If you have to be over on an axle be over on drive.check where the nearest weight station is and try to figure if you will burn enough fuel to make you legal.I assume 1 gal-8 pounds.also check your truck spec.you might be allowed 12 500 on steers.

Yea I thought of that as well when I was only 20 lbs over on an axle. I knew I could burn the fuel and be under but then I thought about if the company would pay for the scale if I never got under legal limits. Well who knows if they are going to pay now anyways lol
