I did something stupid a couple of weeks ago. To make a long story short. I visited some friends, drank too much, they passed around a bong, and I havent smoked since high school, I was always scared to smoke back then, so I only tried it a couple of times.
I take a dot test a couple of weeks later and I pop positive. I thought I would try to get on with another company as quickly as possible before the positive test makes it to my dac record. I found out that this shadow will be on my record for the next three years. I also found out that if I get on with a company and work for them that I could be prosecuted, so what I need to know now, is what do I have to do to clear myself, so that I can get back to work? No more weed for me, im not even going to drink anymore which was very seldom anyway. I have a perfect record besides this. No accidents at all, and I got a ticket the first year I drove that was 12 years ago. I am a very safe driver. I just get a little carried away sometimes when I have fun. I like to make sure other people im around have fun too.
I had no idea that weed stays in your system for so long, but the effects from it only lasted that night, I wasnt high the next day, and I havent been since I smoked the nasty crap. Its too bad that dot dont have a more accurate test that can tell when you smoked, so they can tell if you are a drug addict or not. Then they could weed out the addicts from the ones who just do something stupid while they are drinking.
I know we need to drug test people to get drug addicts off the road, I dont want them out there with my family driving on the same roads. I made a mistake and I have nobody to blame but myself. I just need to know where I need to go from here, and I will appreciate any information that I can get. Thank you.

The DOT drug test was accurate (it tested positive when you were positive) and has high precision (every time you smoke that sh%t and are tested, it will prove you have smoked it). I don't know what to tell you other than pick better friends and don't do things that are against the law...it is not too late to become a law-abiding citizen (I know, I know ...the dopers will come out swinging :violent3: because of this remark...they can't accept that something they love is against the law and they pretend that it is not...or shouldn't be, so it justifies their right to violate the law, in their mind).

From a driving perspective, I think you are screwed :biggrin_2553:...I know I wouldn't hire you for two reasons: 1) you are willing to violate the law at the age of 37 and 2) you show poor judgment for a person of your age. I'm not trying to offend you, I am trying to be honest with you.

If this happened to me, I think I would find out how long the tests can detect the presence of marijuana...then I would pay the same testing company to test me weekly (or at least some interval shorter than the detection time) at my cost. Then when I applied for work and the issue came up, I could show test results showing I have been clean.

Try not getting carried away with fun...What were you thinking :smt017?

there is some thing you can do. i failed a pre employment the company wanted me so bad , i was allowed to go to drug awareness classes . i think it was a 36hr course 4 Saturdays. give it a shot , at least it will look like you have remorse for what you did . good luck.

they need to legalize it anyways.:biggrin_2554:

Thank You NealinNv: I concur wholeheartedly!! Dumb mistakes and the cost of a moment of lack of self control, That's how it is viewed by most and makes it that much harder to offer you a job. How can anyone expect you to stay clean if you don't do it all the time.... The self test is a great way to prove you are trying to show you have learned a lesson. It may not work but it is a step in the right direction. Good Luck

Compass1...When I read your "like you have remorse for what you did" I thought, I wonder why the OP should not feel real remorse for breaking the law and possibly ruining his career (at least in the short term), but then I saw your statement "they need to legalize it anyways." Did the Drug Awareness classes work for you?

Ok...so you messed up. NEVER EVER do this again! If you are willing to take a hair follicle or spinal tap test and pay for it at your own expense, discuss the possibilities with your company. Either one of these tests can accurately pin point the date you done it. I DON"T think you have a chance now either way you go. You could maybe look at a very small local (within your town) company (maybe dump truck). We have a couple small companies around here and how some of the people are allowed to drive for them, I have no clue. One thing, you have to realize, it's gonna be almost impossible to get a decent paying job now. Lay low for 3 years and good luck to you. Most importantly be honest with everyone you go to.

Back in the day my hubby was a pot head, he has smoked a few times since. When he did, he was scheduled off work long enough that if he were tested as soon as he went back to work that he would be able to pass. When he entered the trucking industry, he knew there would never be another pot smoking day for him. He also was very honest when he filed out the application, they actually thanked him for his honesty.

As far as the alcohol, don't blame it. You KNEW it was wrong. No one held a gun to your head and made you smoke it. I really hope this is a lesson learned. In all honesty, I'm glad it was only pot and not ice, crack, cocaine or crank....those seem to be a fav since they pep you up.

due to the nature of MJ to be stored in the fat cells....you either
1 smoked a LARGE quantity. or
2 have a higher than avg bodyfat content and/or low metabolic rate.

a very small quantity of MJ smoked on one occasion will NORMALLY be gone in a day or three from a urine test.

A guy in my club who is a nurse
Said he smoked like a crazy man while in school
Being fat said it would probably take 2 months for it to get out of his system
For a normal size man min of one month
