BS story?

    We were expecting a oversize load and had two cranes waiting to unload. Problem is the cranes were there waiting and the truck was a day late so I had to pay for two large cranes to sit there a whole day waiting on the truck.

    The thing I'm having trouble with is the drivers story. He told me he got stopped in KY on his route and the trooper wanted to weigh him. The trooper diverted him to the scale house and his weight turned out to be ok but the trooper wouldn't let him leave until he got another permit because when he got diverted to the scales it put him off route. Does this even sound plausible?

    I cant see how the trooper can legally require a new permit since the only reason the driver left the designated route was because of the troopers directions. Sounds like entrapment to me. Here lets force someone off a route just so we can make them pay another fee. I would personally fight that one.

    Probably nothing but if I find out the company lied to me, I'll never use them again.

    I should clarify that the driver in question doesn't work directly for me, he works for a company I hired to cover the load.

    It didn't cost me anything for the new permit so it would be up to the other company to fight it or not. I'm not even sure the story is true.

    Ask for his new permit for proof to prove that's why he was late.

    Yeah,,, being late for a crane is not acceptable. I think it is a BS story. If he is running down the interstate the scales are normally on the interstates.

    Not your problem, I would back charge for the cranes sitting. You hired a contractor to do job and he failed(was a day late). Have them cough up the proof ( the new permit the trooper requested) which I agree is B.S. also. But if he has proof, I would still negotiate on the cranes sitting.

    You should have been notified about the delay ASAP so you could have rescheduled the cranes instead of having them standing by on-site waiting for a truck that knew he would be a day late. Had he notified you while sitting there waiting on the new permit, it would be one thing, and I'd be inclined to work out a deal (pending proof of the second permit)...but for nothing to have been relayed to you in advance leaving you and your crew waiting for a truck that wasn't coming? Yup. Bill them the full cost for the cranes, as well as any other expenses you incurred due to the delay.

    I have not heard of that before but it's a weird story to make up. If he was going to lie why not just claim breakdown? Still, even if true he should have called.
