I guess I need to go back to school lol. I've been around for a awhile. My last dump job was hauling scrap for 3 years. I would never say I could load it perfect everytime off the load guages. I loaded it right most times but definitely not all the times in scrap its relatively easy to adjust the load because they use a mag that can take it off in 1 ton lifts. When l pulled end dumps the loader rarely loaded against the door. When you tried to drop a couple tons off invariably the load would shift back enough that now you were heavy on the trailer tridem.

Yet gravel haulers here never seem to have any problems. And there is a full blown coop setup just south of a major gravel pit that possibly thousands of trucks pass through on a daily basis.
And I've loaded bulk salt and supercal into pneumatic hopper trailers on a standard highway truck maybe three times and have always had axle weights not only legal, but perfectly even between drives and tandems.
I won't play the racial argument like other users here, I'll play the "drivers not willing to learn how to do their job" argument.misterG and Bike rider Thank this. -
These new canadians are pulling tri axle dumps with ponys, not 5-6 axle end dumps or bottom dumps though 9/10 times.. Still no reason they dont/cant have a gauge though..
-
Reason there are no gauges is cost. They bid jobs so low they profit margins are so small. Extravagances like gauges would break em. Plain and simple.
-
Well they can continue to get ticket after ticket then... I find it amusing

The last 4 pits I loaded at in Reno have scales on the loader buckets. Never had a problem. And, the quarry won't let you leave/have paperwork when overloaded.
-
These new Canadians should not be allowed to strike And plug up scales for their stupidities. If they can't play the game the way the locals can then they should simply be told to hand in their work visa and go back to their country of origin

I'll use one place I load at in West Virginia as an example. We get loaded on a slight downhill. Tandem tandem 12/40s on tractor and 10'1 spread. I can get 46,000 lbs +\- and scale no problem in the US with stricter axle laws than we have here. There's no scale around where I can check my weights but I use my air gauges and by golly, I'm #### near perfect every time.
Maybe I took the time throughout the years to learn how the laws work or am I just lucky?
I don't believe in what they did one bit. I also used to haul gravel and know what it's like and I never had problems.Dye Guardian Thanks this. -
Years ago a buddy of mine hauled gravel and got a ticket for axle overload. His total was OK. He was hauling with a tandem box truck pulling a tandem stiff pole pup. He took it to court claiming that he had no way to check axle weights but made sure that he was legal gross. The judge reduced his ticket from $250 to $50 IIRC. The only reason that he challenged the ticket was because he was working in an area that he didn't usually work. Otherwise, he wouldn't have because if you piss of the DOT by challenging them you run the risk of them camping out on your doorstep and hassling you every time you leave the yard.
