New rule on my farm.....
I always take a new prospective driver and his wife out to lunch to talk about what they want from a job. I can smell crazy a mile away. If she's nuts I won't hire him. Not saying this is the case here darling.Highway Sailor, passingthru69, catalinaflyer and 3 others Thank this. -

I do too. But I have this song stuck in my head now.
But her "man" has a big problem. Is it
A. It's not a man, I taught I taw a putty tat.
B. He's a lying dirtbag.
C. All of the above.TROOPER to TRUCKER Thanks this. -
Smart move. If she's nuts, he is too.
Knew a driver that had a girlfriend that trashed his apartment with her brother and stole a bunch of stuff. So he says. Next thing you know, she's in the truck with him heading to Seattle. They have an OD load. They take a 34 in a motel and she has dope on her. They have an argument. He ends up in jail and the load has to be repowered. The cops come back to the motel sets the driver free and locks up the woman.
I see him in Texas and he's happy to be single. Call him a week later and he's talking about his fiancé now. WHAT????? They have a fight, he ends up in jail, she calls the office slings dirt. They get back together again, but the office tells him that his rider privileges have been revoked. He tells me that he's expecting to be a father. They have another fight, and another visit to the greybar motel and the company pulls his truck.
You know, there are lots of drivers that can't piss clean. There are drivers that suffer from depression. There are drivers that are so stupid that you can't talk to them without getting a headache. Then there are drivers in such a fubared relationship that you have to question their sanity.SidewaysBentHalo, 25(2)+2, passingthru69 and 6 others Thank this. -
Thanks everybody for your input (serious or not), I appreciate it. I realize that this sounds crazy!
More info:
I saw the pics of the deer hair and blood under the truck. He was hauling sheets of glass and drove over the deer like a speed bump. His boss sent him a copy of the bill for the damages. Messed up the bumper also.
Sounds like we should go to small claims court for the $1K. BF is quitting ASAP.
Also, he was out of service for 13 days due to the emissions problem. Boss doesn't want to pay any for those days. Should he? If so, what is the daily industry average?
Thanks again for your time,
Crazy CindyChewy352 Thanks this. -
Your old man is going to have to grow a pair. You can't go through life being spineless.
Did he go home or did he sit in a motel for those 13 days the truck was down?
Was the glass damaged? Insurance takes care of the deer hits. Automatic. Just send them a pic of the deer and the fur, blood and poo.
I sat for 3.5 weeks because of a breakdown. I got paid $120/day plus motel expenses. There is no industry standard, but my time is important to me, you negotiate your own deal. I told my company that I wanted to go home and they wanted me to wait on the truck. Their first offer was $50/day. I told them that wasn't enough. As a company driver I was used to making a minimum of $200/day. If I am going to be away from the house, I want money. Period.passingthru69, Chewy352 and snowman_w900 Thank this. -
Walk away from the money. Small claims court is, in my experience, a waste of time and money with zero guarantee of payment in the end.
Tell your boyfriend to give Builders Transportation in Memphis, TN a call. They treated me real good when I ran with them. Good, friendly outfit that actually puts a strong emphasis on Safety! -
Unless your BF is an owner operator he's not liable for ANYTHING...his employer can bill him all day long, doesn't mean anything. BF's employer can try to sue him...but good luck.
Your local drug dealer can't sue his source when the next shipment doesn't arrive. An outlaw company can't sue a driver with success.
BRSIMS called it....walk away. Cut your losses and learn. -
There should have been an agreement between he and owner ahead of time laying all of this out. Part of having drivers is the fact that they will tear stuff up more than you would. I know some companies that will back charge a driver for bent bumpers and such.
It just sounds like this isn't a good match for either party. Walk away and start over
