And one additional kind of O/O, a company who makes a living making O/O's from Company drivers. Not everyone can go O/O Or could they.
Imagine for a moment every single tractor is run by a O/O there might be anarchy in Dispatch for they be out of work. TEASE;;;; -
Not sure where you see $76K for 500K+ truck. Prices have dropped significantly this year. 2014 Freightliners with around 300kmi sell for around $70K, still under warranty. No need for 25K + another 25K. I would say starting with $10-15K cash and access to credit cards would be sufficient.
80% work yourself? That's what mechanics are for. -
Better to find a truck with APU

$70k is considered a bargain? I remember in 2009 company spec throw away trucks with 300K were selling for around $40k. Will never forget all those cheap trucks. Probably won't ever see anything like it again.
As far as mechanics go from sad experience there are very few good ones out here. Most of what call themselves mechanics out here will break your ### and put you in a poor house quick. So yeah you better know how to do a lot or be willing to learn how.
