Hello there @AllisonFitch. You say no local job will pay as much? Now define just that statement and help me analyze. Now that also depends on what he can do. What options do you have in Oklahoma? Down in Texas (my part any way) we have saltwater, oil (a bit shakey), log trucks... Is he willing to do tanker work? Vacuum trucks pay pretty well if he has good experience in trucking and is willing to work 15 hours or more. I do dump trucks and in the past concrete. I made pretty good depending on weather and work. Just some suggestions.G13Tomcat, MidWest_MacDaddy and superflow Thank this.

Exactly. The problem with this industry is that we're supposed to "suck it up" and stop whining when companies use bait n switch tactics or flat out lie to drivers. And if we don't then some how this is our fault. The "welcome to trucking" mentality where you either acquiesce to unscrupulous trucking practices or be seen as a whining trouble maker is reminiscent of the migrant worker scene in the movie the Grapes OF Wrath. Shame on companies who bi..h and moan about driver retention then compromise home time for the sake of maintaining the continuity of revenue. (How badly do you really need drivers?) Where you're ready to deprive them of vital home life and cite "oh well, welcome to trucking" as the excuse. NO SIR!
we will not go quietly in the night and continue to work for companies who do this. Life is much too short, and contrary to popular belief, the grass can be greener somewhere else.
Never allow yourself to be held hostage by a company when you determine your fate. Get out there and find another job. IT CAN BE DONE.
And good luck to you.Drifter2014, Eowyn, MiRig2017 and 15 others Thank this. -

Sounds like you're hubby needs to find some local work
... Don't depend on a trucking company to hold up to their promises, they are best known for their deceitful ways and dishonest gain more than anything else
.... OTR is NOT for those who are married for starters , ESPECIALLY if you have children involved.
.... If he doesn't have enough experience then you both have to agree to tough it out until he has enough under his belt to come home to qualify for something local BUT this will not be easy on your marriage or ESPECIALLY your children
This job doesn't pay enough $ to amount to the sacrifice or impact it has on families
.... Unfortunately, Todays drivers don't have the back bone or grit to stand up for themselves or their families
"Keep your chin up kid "
DON'T rely on any words from any trucking company,... after all, ... their job is to keep warm bodies in their equipment isn't it ?
..., I have a feeling they don't mind one bit sucking the life out you and your husband
Keep this in mind and by all means stick by your man ! no matter what....
PS... " God is good" , he is also a good wrestlerLast edited: Oct 4, 2016
