Don't give up and don't settle. I was in a similar situation to you, I bounced around a little too much due to lack of patience and found companies saying no.

I told myself my next trucking job had to have these criteria:
-good pay (I have bills and also I refuse to work for peanuts, I'll just be unhappy then and want to quit)
-a good company I can stay for a long time if not my career (i figure if I leave this job then for sure I won't get another shot with a decent company)

I ended up applying for a temp agency and they got me casual work, they had some permanent good jobs but they questioned my work history stability.

I applied to a bunch of high paying jobs on my own, got an interview. I thought I blew it, and of course they questioned my job history. I wrote them off since I didn't think I had a snowballs chance in hell but sure enough got a call for a 2nd interview and ultimately the job. It's also the highest paying trucking job I had.

If I didn't get this job or another high paying job I was ready to walk away from trucking. I just prayed on it and had faith the man upstairs would steer me right.

All the jobs the staffing agency gave me paid at least 18 an hr with ot. Also try the trash companies and ltl.

If you're looking to do otr most companies will take you as long as you didn't have more than 3 jobs in this past year.

    Good luck and have faith

That's probably a tough area. My mom lives in Cle Elum and I know Peninsula has a terminal there. Lots of good paying jobs over on the west side like in Everett. You may just have to look over there or in the Seattle area and suck up the drive back and forth.

UPDATE. My persistence with Veneer chip Transport paid off. I interviewed, they liked what they heard. I road tested, and that went very well. Both of these things are actually kind of critical to me at this point, because I had a growing self-confidence problem, and tests and interviews were starting to freak me out. But both of these went pretty smooth. But here's the kicker- as all of you folks know, my whole issue here was my cluttered job history, and having to explain much of that away during interviews. I was starting to tell the company VP (who spent 8 years driving for the company when his dad owned the place) that in Wenatchee, there are not many reputable, safe companies to drive for that pay a wage that you can feed your family on. And he knew this, and completely understood. We didn't even need to get into the details of all that. I credit the drive test going as smoothly as it did to that (something about negotiating 77 feet of truck around the Port roads is easier when you aren't worrying about how the interview just went 10 minutes earlier). Next thing I know, I'm set up for the drug test, we're shaking hands, and I'm signing 10,000 pages of employment documents. I have to say you guys helped turn things around for me on this. And a special hat tip to MM71, who's mention of his friend at Veneer Chip Transport spurred me into going back and "reminding" them I had an app already on their desk, just waiting for someone to take a look.
    Happy trails, guys!

Great, So where in the NW are you going to run out of. Does Veneer have a run near Wenatchee?

Actually, I will be running out of Wenatchee myself. There are (I believe) 3 trucks based here, and maybe others in Spokane. VCT is trash hauling mostly from Spokane to Wenatchee, but also from Sandpoint, ID, and Ellensburg, WA to various points. Are you looking for something based here in Wenatchee?

No just curious what is happening with local trucking companies. Are they processing trash in Wenatchee or dumping trash in a landfill?

Let us know how it works out with VCT. It is a one of the few chip companies around with a good rep.

No, Wenatchee is apparently accepting everybody else's trash (haha, hahaha...ahem). Yes, I will definitely keep you guys up to date. And you're absolutely right about the "good rep" thing and VCT. I did some checking around.

Congratulations on hiring on with VCT out of Wenatchee. Would you mind sharing their rate of pay, hours and schedule?

I'm in the same boat as sleddog1268. I really hate trucking companies these days, but after 26 years of driving what are you going to do? My last employer was a saltwater hauling outfit that wouldn't repair their trucks and trailers unless it was something major. ABS brake lights were always on trailers and truck dash panels. Their solution was to cut the wires to the trailer ABS light. The company wouldn't let the driver write up anything wrong in the DVIR (if you did they would fire you for something bogus). They had a separate paper for DVIR write ups, and then they wouldn't fix problems most of the time. I finally just quit because it got really serious. and I got DOT warnings for overweight and non working bright lights. The bright lights were working not just 20 minutes prior the DOT inspection.
I seem to either run into companies with a lack of work to the point that I can't support my family, or a company that flat out refuses to follow DOT regulations.

I'm not sure what to do now. I have pulled a tanker for the past 11 years. I have X endorsement, TWIC card, and a passport card. Over 2.3 million safe miles with no accidents, and the last moving violation I had was in 2006 (long off my record). I even hold a LPG certificate from the Texas railroad commission. Even so, nobody wants to hire me because of 6 employers in the past 4 years. I guess these companies think no companies out there would never screw a driver over, or loose their work to a lower bidding competitor.

I have applied and been turned down at several tanker companies. I live just south of Ft.Worth, TX. I welcome anyone's advice at this point. I'm out of ideas.
