Ok, I think this will only take one person that knows the answer to this but as of yet I have not found that person nor the answer. I live in SC I am supposed to be going to school in AR for my CDL. I have read so much about all the things that these company's send you home for when you get there. I have been studying for my CDL permit for SC on my own. I figure the more I can do before I get there the better off I am. I would rather get my DOT physical done here than get out there and find out that I had an ingrown toenail in 1982 and can't continue:biggrin_25525: Here is my question.

If I go to school with my DOT physical already done and my SC permit do I have to take them all over again when I get there. Is the DOT physical a federal exam or a state exam. I think it is a federal from what I have read. So I would think that it is good in whatever state I go to school in. Could someone be so kind as to verify this for me for sure.

Every trucking company that I have heard of will have you take another physical and another drug test whether you have had it done or not.

    The drug test & physical:

You might be doing yourself a favor getting these done at home. This alerts you to anything that can go wrong so there's no surprises. You might skip the drug test if you know you haven't done anything in a long while.

Personally I wouldn't skip the drug tests for two reasons.
One, it might spot something the physical won't like sugar, blood etc.

Second, if you should somehow fail the company provided one thru no fault of your own, you'll have something to back you up in court.

Yes the company will likely provide another physical & drug test.
Some let it slide if they are very recent but I'd plan on it again.

    The CDL permit:

Again not a bad thing to get while home so you know what's on the tests. It "should be" valid in other states as well. This has a couple ramifications. You may want to obtain a SC CDL because that is your state of domicile regardless of where the company is. This means you now have to take the driving part for the company & get a letter/form stating that you passed it & bring that back to SC for license issuance. Just some in-between traveling before you can be assigned a truck or trainer maybe.

I think you'll be ok in most part.
You'll probably have to jump thru some hoops on each end because your documents are from another state.

The company said that I will have a Arkansas CDL and then sometime when I am home in SC get it switched to a SC CDL. I looked it up on there web site and it was like $12 to switch it over. Does this sound right to you?

$12 to get a new CDL in your home-state?
    Possible, but not likely.
It cost me $90 just to RE-NEW mine.
I suspect that it is the same price as having a new-issue.

$27.50 I didn't see the part about the app. fee. It says on the web site that it is $15 for an app fee and $12.50 for the actual fee to print it.

    Before you had it checked:

Did you sleep well the night before?

Did you have any caffeine before?

    Were you under any stress?

What does your BP usually run?

    Have you contacted the doctor?

I am not looking for the anwers, I just pointed these out for you to think about.

High BP of 190 is on the low end of the stroke end. It is not something to be shrugged off. Best to find the source.
