Hi, my husband has just left Smith Transport for the 2nd time. He worked for them from 2005-2006.....it started off good, then the miles kept getting less and less. He left the company then, on good terms, however months later we found out that they had put alot of untruths on his DAC report, which prevented my husband from getting any trucking job until we had filed a complaint with USIS, which in turn they contacted Smith for proof of these accusations, when they couldn't provide proof, Smith had to remove it from my husbands DAC. So, first....if you leave, I strongly suggest you request a copy of your DAC report to make sure it isn't done to you. A new company has taken over for USIS, but you can request a free copy once a year.
As for this second time at Smith, he was there exactly 3 months! His dispatcher was horrible, lied abt the division he was in to try to keep him out longer, never got him home when he needed to be. When he told her that he wasn't getting enough miles, nothing was done. In those 3 months he had 1 good week.....funny...his dispatcher was on vacation that week! He would tell her in advance when he needed time off, and she never remembered and then told him that he never told her...yet it was all sent on the qualcomm! He was only getting $300-400 paychecks, and after the insurance kicked it...most weeks knocked it down to $200-300.......anybody with a family and bills to pay can't live on that, let alone the driver living out on the road. Since leaving, they have made one excuse after another to take money from his pay, they even continued to take his insurance premiums and escrow out of his last checks even tho he wasn't employed by them anymore. Right now, he is fighting to get the insurance premium back, payroll claims only 4 weeks were taken out, but it was 6....payroll says they didn't take it out after he was no longer employed by them, but yet, we have the paystubs that show the deduction for insurance. And getting anyone to return a phone call about it is ridiculous. In a few months, I will yet again request a copy of his DAC report, because this company can't be trusted.
I have read thru all the responses on this thread and I see sooo much that we have experienced, I can tell you that 90% of what I have read is true, so if you are researching this company, or thinking of going there.....DON'T.........I strongly suggest that you stay away from it, unless of course, you like being in debt and not able to pay the bills or take care of your family.
AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!

Un-heard of. Thats also very hard to believe. I have yet to meet an unhappy Smith Transport driver. I'm not bad towards women either, but for some strange reason, every driver that has a female dispatcher, never makes any money. Whether that driver is male or female.G&P_Trucking Thanks this. -
They have the freight,I have since departed ways with Smith awhile back. They asked if I`d switch to the northeast regional division,so i did,and they claimed I would average just about the same miles as I did doing road work.Total BS,my miles dropped big time,to the point where I was in the hole every week.
Since then I have found a regional job out of NJ,small family operation,I am so done with larger fleets, nope ,never again -
BUMP this topic is interesting im not looking to work for any other company im fine where im at. But I always wonder how smith drivers are because I never met 1 or hear them complaining about the job
