My other, even smaller option:

Both serve me well, and kick the poo out of maglite.

Just picked up an Energizer pen light at Lowes for a few $, very convenient and bright focused light, better than expected.texasbbqbest Thanks this. -
I just ordered 50 flashlights for my drivers. I got surefire G2x pro lights. We had tested a bunch of others but these seem to be the best and priced right.

COAST HP550. 1075 lumens in high power mode, not sure about low power mode. takes 9AA. Just as heavy and a bit smaller than the 3D mag. More durable in my opinion since I've killed 2 3D mags with led. And it has an actual culminating lens to switch from a very good spot light to a flood light.
Still got a 3D mag as backup. And a headlamp, and another aluminum light that strobes. But that Coast is my best. Always wanted to try the shurefires though. I got the COAST for free but it sells for 80$~.AM14 Thanks this. -
I keep a Streamlight Stylus Pro in my lunchbox. Charges off a USB. Bright as hell for a pen sized light.

I really like Coast lights. I have several models from the big boys down to pocket lights. My favorite is the HX5 pocket light. It stays on the sunglass holder on my overhead console, is light and has great lume. I accidently ran it over with my 3500 after leaving it on the driveway and have had no problems. The only negative thing that i can say about it is that the pocket clasp could have been designed a little better where it fastens around the shaft of the light but that's it. It's a great little light for 20 bones.
I've had alot of problems with Maglites in the past. To each his own as they say.FerrissWheel Thanks this. -
I had always used mags till someone gifted me the HP550. Got one of the smaller ones but the model is worn off. I've had the HP550 for two years now and it's rattled around with tools, been thrown, dropped, used the end cap as a hammer. Used it to break ice off my trailer. And it's still ticking.
Coast makes some tough products.AM14 Thanks this. -
So, none of you guys are using these anymore? I remember my Grandpa using these when coon hunting. He used them in his earlier days in the mines.
camionneur, Lepton1, AM14 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've got carbide lamps, many of them came from the copper mines in the upper. Even have the hats and some of the drilling equipment, like the drill pads and bits. My grandfather used them 100 plus years ago. Even used one of the older ones a few years back to show the kids what it was like. Carbide wasn't hard to find but explaining to someone how to use one was the hard part.
AM14 and FerrissWheel Thank this. -
I carry a 2-AA Streamlight on my side whenever I'm at work. I've also got a 4-D Mag light but that little Streamlight is twice as bright and one 10th of the size.
I used to carry a mini Mag light but they never would last me very long before they went to giving me trouble.
