I guess its just the experience and knowledge that comes with driving a truck for more than an hour. Anyone who has done such knows which companies to stay as far away as possible. There is a reason that Swift and Covenant have such high turnover rates...because people realize what goes on and they turn right around and head for somewhere, anywhere else.
Any current Covenant Drivers??

My son, who was a little desperate so went with Covenant, takes home much more than $350 a week. Even during training, he averaged $500 take home and he averages more than that now 3 months into his 6-mo teaming commitment.
I'm not sure where you got your info MGASSEL, since I don't think from your prior posts you've ever worked for COVENANT, but as REDCOATWIFE stated: Because her husband is a resident alien with no driving experience in THIS country, COVENANT was the only company to accept her husband.
You've mentioned in a couple of prior posts with people starting out with starter companies that they 'had to start somewhere'. Well, her hubby is going to start with COVENANT. Doesn't sound like he has much choice.
Is it a great company? Absolutely not! Is it an okay starter company? It has been so far for my son, in spite of the fact that he does not like/want to team and they make them pay for things that they should not have to pay for. He just keeps an open mind, learns the ropes, and gets the experience he needs to move on to something better. I expect that REDCOAT WIFE's hubby will do the same. -
MountainMama were I got the 350.00 from if you read my previous post I posted that he may get 500-550 after taxes then minus his food and other things that he may buy.
His wife would probaly only see about 350.00 of that money.
She was kind of happy that her hubby would make 750.00 per week while teaming.
Someone told her .15cpm x 5000 miles a week he would make 750.00 per week for being on a team truck but I think she did not relize that taxes would have to come out of that money. -
I agree, they always post teams making 150k or something, but you have to remember that each driver gets half that. and I dont hear Covenant advertising anywhere near that anyways.
Then you have taxes that get taken out, and if you are on training pay of some sort...you already are making next to nothing. On top of that, theres the expenses of just living out on the road as well. -
Schneider was the FIRST company to turn him down. It didn't matter that he'd had no violations in 33 years of driving in the UK, the US insurers don't care about that. You have to have a good driving record in the US, not any other country. Schneider told him to come back and see them once he'd had his US license for at least 6 months. Swift was a year. CR England was 2 years. Covenant was 1 day. Since he got his class C license in June, where did that leave him?
I'm not making excuses for Covenant. At least I didn't think I was. My point was simply that I was going to give them a chance since they were the only company to give Redcoat a chance. And I saw that TV show!
They had the dude dead to rights and there was the Covenant logo on his truck big as life. How mortifying. What bad PR *that* was. And how ironic. That show came on when Redcoat was going through the Arrow debacle of an orientation. I called him up and told him I saw his (probably) future company on TV.
Speaking of calling, Redcoat called this morning and told me that they are waiting at a shipper in Dallas to get loaded up with 50-something cases of foam cups to go to east L.A. They dropped the trailer and had been waiting for going on 3 hours for them to load it. He gets to drive and I told him that he got a gravy load for his first trip through the mountains.
The company also put $100 on his commdata card so he was able to go to Wal-Mart to get enough food to last him for 10 days (he says).
Also, as far as Covenant not paying decent wages, I'm not disagreeing with you. And, yes, I knew they were talking gross - not net. I also took that figure as a best-case scenario. But it's like MountainMama says, when nobody else will hire you, ANY wage is better than NO wage. And right now, $350 net a week STILL puts a thousand dollars into our budget that wasn't there before and I can kick butt paying off some credit cards with that much extra loot. Redcoat is definitely putting in his time. He knows exactly what he wants to do and having to go through Covenant boot camp is just something that has to be done before he can get to that point. You can only take so long exhausting all your other options before it gets down to crunch time and you have to s%!t or get off the pot. He wasted three weeks trying to get through Arrow and then Swift's orientations. If he'd just gone with Covenant right out of Roadmaster school, he'd be halfway through his training by now. He took the chance and it just didn't work out. So there ya are.

yeah i see you dont even have a year in yet "Mr. Knowledge" who do you drive for ? a taxie service? dont let em get you down redcoatwife , you have to do what you have to do getting started , everyone knows that .. some of the more inexperienced drivers just have to throw their 2 pennies in for some reason

How about getting a truck w/problems and they refuse to change it? So here i sit again this time in a hotel for about a week.........in a hotel where there is nothing to do and no where to go in walking distance? But they did call me today and let me know they will take me to the nearest terminal, so i can do the "smith sysytem"!!!! In 2 months i've had 4 breakdowns, there is no money here, i am just biding my time untill i have enough otr time to get a better job. Their policies are total ####.
And so is their pay. Be aware of any company that hides behind a facade of christianity...... Remember: Do unto others as you would have done unto you! Now i will have to get them to move me home if i don't breakdown again, my temp atm card got shutdown, so no cash, no miles,no pay....and all theses creeps want is for you to adhere to their
######## rules and regs. I hope people read all these entries about them,
if you can belly up to the buffet table and eat all their #### till you can
move on, then this is the place for you. And yes they get 10 grand for every sucker that stays after 90 days. -
AMAZING , try reading what this post is all about huh?

Uh yeah, like you, and how you replied to my same quote twice?
I drive, and if you would like...I dunno, read any of the 800+ posts Ive made on here, youd know that...I work for Schneider.
As far as inexperience. I was put on a dedicated run right out of training.
Its completely stupid to point the finger on inexperience. Sure that might keep the door closed for a short amount of time. But there are tons of companies that are great that ALSO hire inexperienced drivers. -
What does that have to do with the topis here? "as far as experience" being put on a dedicated run , doesnt equal experience , youll learn that when you get afew years in and alot more miles.. It doesnt matter how many companies will hire inexperienced drivers does it? .... the operative word here is "EXPERIENCE" wait till youve driven , I dont know say , 500,000 miles then you can call yourself an experienced operator
