I made a habit of staying away from weird places!

Shoulder on I-80 in CA west of Placerville. Forest fire shutdown the interstate.
Was only there a few hours before the cops told us we had to take the detour. So I parked on the westbound side for another hour and a half or so before they opened up a eastbound lane. -
Parked at the only truck stop in the bay area. The "sf oakland" only 3 trucks can park there and in the morning 2 get woken up by the Mexican guy at the truck wash telling them to move

This should be a good thread. Im sure the old hands have got some great stories. I guess I don't sleep in too many exotic places but I'd say my weirdest was at Sysco in New Braunfels, TX. They have you sleep in the middle of the road. Literally in the middle. Granted, the road only goes to the Sysco and the GE plant but still. It's a little unsettling having traffic whiz past in both directions and those company drivers are nuts. Makes for an interesting pre-trip though.
Boattlebot Thanks this. -
Hmmm lots of streets in NYC metro area with fixture for new stores or remodels .
The night before I got there some would cone off a spot in the street for me to park , when I got there I'd move the cones and park then cone the truck in .
No one including the cops ever bothered me but it was usually as hell .
Had a couple stores in lower Manhattan that once I had the truck secured I could go hit the local adult beverage spots and bodegas .Mark_2wain, Longarm, AM14 and 1 other person Thank this. -

On a mountain in Arizona picking up cooper. It was a good spot for reflection.

One time when the roads closed I spent 11 hours in the left lane of westbound I-80 about three miles past Little America.
I haul a lot of loads into airports so it's quite often I'll spend the night in a staging area of an airport listening to the planes land and take off all night.
Another time I was waiting on permits for a OD load at an oilfield frac company yard. They locked me in the yard since I couldn't travel during curfew or after dark anyway. I ended up ordering a pizza and the delivery kid was so concerned that I might need help for getting locked in. Apparently had never had to pass a pizza under a chain link gate to a customer before.
My favorite off the wall place to park is anywhere that can't be seen from any town, buiilding or main road. -
I love ordering a pizza and just hearing the puzzled look on there face when I say it's the big white truck lol
