So if you apply for a new job and one of the companies you worked for either:
a) no longer exists
or
b) was bought out by another company
or
c) merged with another company
Then how does it work as far as employment verification?

They can get your dac file. a lot of companies in business don't or won't respond to requests anyways. If the dac file is incorrect some employers might let you use a w2 or 1099 as verification to fill in the blanks. the company is required by law to legally obtain this information if all possible, that means they don't have to get it but it would be a good faith effort to hire you without, but in the meantime if they tried and the 30 days pass they legally tried to verify your employment.

I am going through this right now. The last place I drove for a couple of years ago is gone, the guy even changed his phone number (prolly to stop the creditors calling, knowing him lol), so I dug up my W2's, and they were happy.
I suppose even just a pay stub would be better than nothingTequilaSunrise and NavigatorWife Thank this. -

I was able to contact old employee from now out of business company, give her letterhead, tell her my dates of employment, and she wrote letter documenting my employment. That old company didn't report anything to DAC. It looked like a 2 year blackhole without that letter.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

Lots of trucking companies either merge with other companies or sell or just go out of business. Happens all the time. Trucking companies know this. So what I do is put my work history down including the company I worked for that went out of business or merged or whatever. The old phone number, address and a name. Reason for leaving? Company got bought out. Is what I put down. I've never had a problem. There will be enough current companies to verify my experience. So they don't sweat the merged or out of business companies.
