My first year of full time driving I made right around 53K Pulling bulk tank for one of the cheapest companies in this area. It was a good stepping stone to where I'm at now. The last 5 years I've averaged around 60

First complete year with the same company $74,000
Finfn1372, Pintlehook, TROOPER to TRUCKER and 1 other person Thank this. -
My first year, I only worked for the summer doing seasonal work and grossed 6500. 2nd year, I made about 30k. 3rd year, I grossed about 45k and took 6 weeks off. I was just offered a position that offers me about 69k to work a 4 on 3 off schedule. The salary will commensurate greatly with each year you are accident-free.

I cleared a little over 50k with a company that ran regional and home ever weekend. The problem was to make that I had to run most of those weekends starting at .36 a mile not the best but far from the worst.

I'll have my first year in on Nov. 5. I will make right at 65k. Been home every weekend most times for 45-60 hrs and a majority of the weeks I've been home at least one night during the week. I'm with Watkins Shepard.

Jeez it has been so long ago I don't really remember. I'm not going to jump on that rookies are being abused and underpaid bandwagon. I spoke to a guy I know in a loss prevention dept of a mega carrier yesterday about another subject when this guy told me a new hire with less then 6 months experience just caused them almost a quarter million in paid out damages. They are self insured and ALL of this is coming out of their pocket. Until a way is found ( and honestly I don't think it is possible to do it ) to cull out these drivers unfit to operate a CMV, it is simple wages for all rookies will be suppressed. It is what it is and is caused by the high turnovers in this industry. One thing that bothered my father and many of the older truckers I knew/know is they hate the way TV and movies like Smokey and the Bandit have glamorized trucking. I feel the same way. Trucking is a magnet for people thinking that anybody can do it. That is NOT true and NEVER will be. Yes exrayman4000 is in grouchy mood today.
