I wouldn't mind spending some home time in Vegas or Los Angeles...I would probably change it up only every 6 months or so just to keep from pissing off the dispatcher. But I'd say that's a pretty good deal.

I did not train with Swift, but I work for them now. I have had no problem with them. My pay is decent. No I'm not rich, but I don't care.
I stay on the road as long as I want. They've never forced me to take time off. If I want a vacation, I let them know when and where, and they get me there. If I'd rather work, then I work. You can stay out all year, if you want. I wouldn't recommend it, though. You'd get burned out.
I officially live with my parents. Saves the storage unit cost and PO box cost. Of course, I got rid of most of my stuff, just took it to Salvation Army. I only kept the things that couldn't be replaced. Sentimental stuff, you know? Sold my car, too.
I have a wireless bill, and food. Those are my only costs. I spend a bit on play, vacations, etc. Still have quite a bit left over.
Disclaimer: this only works if you are comfortable with no roots. In time, the truck becomes home for some. However, others prefer having a nest to come back to. -
The worst I've been treated is really mere annoyances. Things like getting a preplan that lists one date for delivery, then having the date changed after I accept it. Or being given a preplan 4 hours after the pickup appt. Stupid stuff like that.
Remember, the office staff is human, too. They make mistakes, just like we drivers do. -
That is the one thing that bugs me about the planners at Swift...
I still like Swift. I've been with them since March and running solo since late April or something like that.
My DM knows me by my name when I call in and hooks me up when ever I ask.
I think it's just a matter of the attitude one brings to the table or in this case the truck.
Keep in mind Swift is one of the largest trucking companies in the U.S.
So you're going to hear/read all kinds of different things from different people.
Just my 2 cents. -
Not exactly a true answer.
In the event of an IRS audit, the auditor MAY ask for proof of residency. They may ask for proof of rent, utilities or tax bill, mortgage. There is no set rule for them to follow. Keep this in mind when you tell others things.
