So with my new company I have a Volvo for the first time, and while driving at light I find that the illumination is much worse than with my Freightliners I grew up with. Among other things, it seems the beams are aimed lower, and there seems to be moisture inside the headlight housing, do any of you who have dealt with Volvo have any advise you can offer?

    How new, which model?

Friend drives one, a 780 and says he drives on high beams, and seldom gets flashed. I drove one a day and made sure to get the Cascadia back.

The FL shop at least in Oak Creek, WI is selling replacements that look similar to the FL housings that fit Volvo.

I see lots of Volvo and others fitted with driving lights set below the main headlights in the bumper.

Just throwing some ideas out there, try the high beams first. Good luck with finding a solution that works for you.

That's the odd thing, my brights are GREAT. I did try driving with them and was quickly being flashed. Unfortunately modding the equipment is going to be outside of what I can.

I'm in the same boat. 579 Pete has 55w low beam and 65w brights. My flashlight is brighter than the lows. I do remember swift was sticking 65w bulbs in both low and high but I'm not going to pay for a 500$ harness.

Are the lenses clear? You could try just replacing the low beam lamps if the lenses, are clear, new lamps are brighter.

    They gradually lose brightness.

The friend has replaced his. They burn out regularly, it seems. He has a deer guard, which may deflect some light from going too high.

I know that when I pass one at night, I'm lighting ahead of them from mid trailer or even the trailer tandems, on low beam, and high beams are great once I get ahead.

I have noticed road glare more on other trucks with poor low beams, so I'm wondering if you can raise the aim a bit.

The lenses seem to have moisture in them rather than actually being cloudy as most of us are more familiar with. I haven't had a chance to look at aiming them yet, but as I said they don't seem to cast as far as what I am used to with other trucks in the past. To be honest it is also still questionable how long I am with the current company.

I don't know that you can find bulbs to substitute in a Volvo.

Giving a little more thought, see if you can raise the aim, even on the Paccar trucks, the close glare is reducing what you can actually see downrange.

They make h11 bulbs double wattage, and those should never be substituted for the 55 watt standard rating.

I can switch high beams with low beams in the Cascadia, while the Columbia took different bulbs for high and low beam, just like most of the trucks out there.

I don't care for the optional led lights, bad color for foggy conditions.

My Oldsmobile has that problem, too. I have some more to switch with them. See what you can find out about the moisture, might have been leaky housings used in some of them.

While I am at the yard tomorrow for a little (downtime) maintenance on my own I will look into it. I have also considered seeing what the cost would be (if available) for the blue lights or High Definition (or whatever the hell they are called). Say what you want about Freightliners, but I never had one (OK I had ONE, but it was with the old FFE) that had any issues I was unable to live with.

By the way am I allowed to say Hell?

I agree, actually don't like Volvo myself, either no trouble at all or trouble all the time.

Easier to drive what you are used to, I felt like a fish out of water doing those tight docks with that 780.
