I should have been a little more clear on this post. I know what truck I'm getting, but I have no idea if it will be stick or auto. I'm fine with either. I do know that I'll be testing on my trainer's truck, which means I won't have a license restriction. Don't let it happen to you. Remember, you are paying for your training with a commitment of a year of your life. Don't let them put you with a trainer driving an auto. It is unfair to you and your future. Don't back down. I didn't.

Hey. I just read through all of this thread. It was IMMENSELY INFORMATIVE.. I have been self employed for last 5 yrs only making about 60k/yr, with a wife and six kids. I am in process of selling my business and looking to join MILLIS. It seems that they are one of the best companies to start with. My plan is to get about 2 yrs under my belt, and then use the money i received from selling the business to buy my own truck and become an O/O... We live in Long Island, NY and life sucks here... So in 4 years after older 3 kids are out of HS, I plan on moving to NC with my O/O TRUCK and live good...

Just wanted to say thank you for this thread and hope to follow your progress over next couple months till my deal finalizes, and new guy is trained and I get my butt to MILLIS

You are very welcome! I'm leaving this weekend to join my trainer, so my new thread will be starting soon. I've had a couple long conversations with him over the last week, and very happy to report that my original impression of him was correct. This is a good pairing, and we get along great :) Having two people in one truck can obviously be stressful at times, but our personalities are very similar. I'm not looking forward to being gone for six straight weeks, but I am very excited for the upcoming experience. I would imagine that the school I went to is probably the closest one to you. That's a very good thing, because you'll have Bill as an instructor. I would recommend doing copious amounts of research on the O/O part of your plan. There are ways to make really good money in trucking without the responsibility of owning your own truck. For example, my dad is interviewing this week for Walmart. They start their drivers at $80k.You need 3 years OTR experience and a squeaky clean safety record. After a few years with them you can be making $100k+. Also, if you like driving for Millis, you can get into the trainer program after a year, and start training students. The bump in pay is significant. I won't disclose what my trainer told me, but it is shocking. Almost all companies have some sort of trainer program, where you can do the same thing. My dad almost came to Millis. He was very close, because of the trainer program. He held out for Walmart. If he doesn't get it he's going O/O. I'm not so sure I'd be comfortable making that leap, but that's just me.

I planned on using first 2+ years to have as many interactions and conversations with O/O as possible and see.. Please keep the OTR training updates coming

Will do. O/O is an awesome path to follow if you know what you are doing. I would never discourage it. Just be very aware of everything and talk to as many people as you can :)

Well, I heard from Perry. I'm leaving tomorrow night, or the next day, depending on how he gets routed for the next load. Or should I say....MY FIRST LOAD!!! :) As promised, I have started a new thread to document my experience with him. It's titled "On the road with Millis". I hope that this thread has been helpful and informative. If I can help you further in any way, just feel free to ask, I'll do my best!

Hey guys, is millis still a good training & company too work for. I heard 10% of there drivers left. Because of the cameras. I was accepted by millis. Just want to get some feed back before I make that decision. Thxs

Since finishing this thread, I have completed my training and I'm now on my own. I love it so far. All of the drivers have been really nice and helpful. Don't let the idea of cameras bother you, it really isn't a big deal. This isn't the only company that uses them, and I guarantee others will follow suit. Which school are you going to?

Yes millis is a very good company to start with. Schooling is good, and the pay while training is one of best for company's who train. I've never met the instructor at Eden so I can't really help you there but I've been here over a yr and I've never heard anything bad about him. Any questions or problems arise feel free to ask. When you starting school? I'll be getting my 1st student within the next month
