Eld isn't as bad as some of you guys make it out to be. Don't get me wrong, I liked running paper for the few months that I've ran them, by I like the less stress of not having to worry about dot scrutinizing my logs just because I'm on paper

That's true. I was apprehensive like everyone else, but I have been using electronic logs for almost 5 years and have no problems with it. Hasn't negatively affected my earnings. Sure, requires some better freight scheduling management and such, but not that big of a deal. No fan of them, but also not a naysayer. It is just another tool to keep track of things.
thejackal Thanks this. -
I don't mind using elogs either. Truth be told I've learned to manage my time better.
However, I do have an issue with the mentality that one size fits all and it will solve the "safety" issue. But until everyone has to have them, the law won't adjust.
I also know of a 92 k100 cabover that has qualcomm and elogs. So it possible. -
Safety has just been a ruse to justify the e-logs. It is about compliance, pure and simple. Only the naive fall for the safety argument.

With each year that passes by. Is another year the dinosaurs die. And they get less and less.
Problems also come with them dinosaurs to the point of being a money pit. I'm in a 07 kw and right now I'm missing my 13 and 16's I used to drive.
BTW. My 16 was picked up in April of 15. That 2016 model is 18 months old now. -
when they see how many trucks are still running without elogs it will change. I don't believe it will be implemented next year anyway
nothing gets done on time in the gubbermintBean Jr. and timmytorco Thank this. -
It's already been published, they just have to show 2 years for enforcement. Only thing that will stop it is this lawsuit by ooida or a similar suit
-
I think ooida is in court with it still.

Lol, well, since we all know how uncompliant "professional" drivers love to be, especially with the HOS rules, can we really be surprised that they are trying another way to enforce compliance on an industry of scofflaws?
And since there is plenty of anecdotal evidence in the news frequently of tired drivers killing people, there is no reason to expect them to do anything other than strict enforcement.
So, by encouraging and allowing rampant unsafe driving, we have brought more and more restrictive HOS regulations on ourselves, and now that technology is able to do it, a cheap and simple way to make it much harder to cheat the system is here, but our lack of self-policing, and so many willing to risk others for a few more miles, is what is leading to this.
Yes, if politicians were smarter, they might be able to do it in a better way, but they have to do something to address the Supertruckers, and that brings it on all of us.
I mean, all they have to do to justify the need for stricter laws and more invasive monitoring is read this site! Lol
There are so many how-to posts, and bragging about how people can get by ignoring the rules, it looks like a pretty prevelant problem.
I wonder if they are going to crack down on over power CBs someday based on all the bragging and instructional content all over the internet...
I have mixed feelings about that one.
I am a Ham, and so I think the laws should be followed, because I understand about band plans and intermod and wiping out other users, but I also know a lot of the guys running a little hot have no ill intent, it is just the expected thing to do in this culture.
I guess what I would like to see is the crackdown on the sale, resale and modification of radios to be illegal, so it doesn't cost all of you guys money, but the problem can die away gently lol
Anyway, we bring it on ourselves when we choose to break the law as part of our business model, and everybody is doing it, or winking at it.
