Easiest Job for Old Guys?

I hear ya, but those jobs are hard to come by these days (i would think)

 

Have you considered drive away opportunities? I saw a group of guys fueling up fire trucks the other day and they all had to be older than 60.

 

I got my CDL at 51. I'm a little guy, 150 lbs soaking wet and did flatbed my first job, tarping 90% of loads.

I have back issues and other serious health concerns and I'm doing fine out here at 52 now, 18 months into it.

It's more about stamina to keep driving than anything else.

 

How about for middle-aged women?

 

Well, I just turned 62 on 24 September and instead of applying for SS/Medicare I went to CDL school and just finished orientation with Schneider, who hires new trucking school grads and is "mature driver" friendly.

During my week with my OTR trainer, who hauls paper on a dedicated account, everything was drop and hook.

I was able to pick the job I wanted from theIraq job page and was lucky enough to get it. I am driving one week one, one week off, which suits me fine. In six months I can stay put, apply for something else or go to another company.

 

My back is crap, drive tanker, and it hurts. Either you can do it or you cant. Dry van is the safest bet. All of you with your judgemental responses should check the mirror. You dont have to be 77 to have a bad back. We do what we can to keep truckin.

Did not read the entire thread, but d & h on a dry van is not always easy. Dropping is easy, but hooking to a fully loaded trailer, when it is 12 inches either high or low is no piece of cake. Believe me.

 

A friend of mine's dad drove dump truck until he was 77. He had to, he put three kids through university.
