Using a single mount like this for 2 meters improvement over the low mirror mount for 2 meters.

This is the one that I was avoiding because it seems weakest of all especially for a 5ft

Nice article and it confims what I had written in a cheap upgrade. Which stated the extra power was to give the operater more head room. Two things must be considered. one is power defined as watts RMS and signal strenght measured in Dbs. To raise the signal 3 db requires double the watts root mean squared. it is a very simple formula

If a cb has 4 watts RMS and you wish to Increase transmit power 3db we would want 8 watts RMS. This is called headroom. As the modulation is increased on the preamp, the main output circuit must be able to handle the dynamic voltage output from the preamp, the net result is a reduction of noise rated as distortion. The signal to noise ratio must be:

"considered as part of the performance of equipment"

We are not talking about a 1000 watt linear set up, we are talking about improving the clarity of human speech when converted to analog amplitude modulation and used to communicate with other drivers within a 7 to 10 mile radius.

The O P had said he is not getting responses from other beyond 3/4 miles using his current set up on a Cobra Ltd using stock antenna in Freightliner Cascadia
    .

The factory setting and OEM equipment left him feeling less than satisfied with the performance specs out of the box.

He admitted he wasnt trying to be a super trucker with a TEXAS size big radio like them boys down south who brag they can drop your cellphone conversation just by keying up!
