Hey guys. I just got the job at TMC and am an inexperienced driver. I go up for the class starting Nov 7 in Des Moines. Quick question. As far as getting my permit, which route would be better? I live in Missouri. So I have the option of going to take it here or taking it there in Des Moines for Iowa and they transfer it here. Is it really that different in each state? Just wondering which route would be best.
Thanks for any response. And I look forward to starting at TMC. I've heard great things!

Congratulations! They're on my short list, too. Best of luck and try and keep us updated.

I went through their CDL program. I would suggest you get your permit in your home state. We had a guy in our class wait to get his permit in Iowa, he failed it twice and he got sent home.
QuietStorm and randy10786 Thank this. -
I think home state is what I've decided to do. I've started using the practice tests on here already tonight and passed once.austinmike Thanks this.

Question, I know this comes up all the time, but how is home time? I live in St Joseph Missouri. Have a wife and 2 little girls at home. I know they say home every weekend, but is that truly the case? Again, thank you for any replies.

They do get you home for the weekend if that is what you want. Usually Friday afternoons or Saturday morning at the latest. They have a lot of freight coming out of that area. You shouldn't be concerned about that.

Since you said you went through the training with them. What kind of buffer do they have as far as learning? I'm usually very good at learning and I pick up new things fairly quickly. But truck driving is a whole new monster. Maybe I'm just over thinking things because I'm anxious about it. But I gave my notice at work and obviously don't want to get sent home because then I'll be in a world of hurt. Like I said, maybe I'm just worrying too much. I'm not a quitter. I'm a hard worker. If I'm not getting something, I will ask. If I'm having trouble with driving or backing, I will do it til I get it right. I'm very stubborn. Haha. I want this to be my career and I'm not gonna give up on it. But I just don't want to get sent home because I'm not getting something.
