You shouldn't have any trouble. The instructors are great, very knowledgeable and patient with new drivers. The load securement on the first weekend is overwhelming at first, but you'll learn way more when you go out with your trainer. Just follow the rules and it isn't hard. I had my doubts too, but I got through it pretty easy.

As long as you listen you will be fine. Sounds like u got a good attitude and that will go a long way with your instructors. The ones who i saw get sent home was flat out goofballs, or didnt have enough coordination to even drive an automatic lol. I dont know how they do it now but after i passed the 2 week drill i drove with a trainer for 2 months. once i made it threw that they sent me to columbia s.c to take a final written, and driving exam before you get your own truck. Im still proud to say at the time they told me i was one of only 6 students to ever to make 100% on the driving exam. Like i said, if your willing to learn, and have a good attitude then you'll be fine. Just stay calm and drive the dang truck lol

Look at it this way they hired you because they need drivers they're not going to bring you all the way to iowa just to fail you. They're giving you the opportunity to become an employee you just need to do your part and stay focused on your training. If you're having a problem with something then ask the instructor for extra help or extended range time. Remember every truck driver was a newbie including your instructors.

I totally agree with the above responses. I also got a 100% on my test out.

Ok, Another question. Sorry if Im being annoying or anything. Does anyone know how many times I am allowed to take the permit test at my local DMV in Missouri? I've been practicing on the practice tests on this site, and it has helped alot. Im thinking about going in tomorrow sometime to take the test. But if I fail, How long do I have to wait to take it again. Knowing that I go to Des Moines next weekend for starting on November 7, I dont think I will get very many opportunities if I am required to wait a few days to take it again. I have tried googling this question but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

Not sure about how Missouri does it. I would call your local DMV and ask. I would advise you to get that permit before you go to Iowa.

Randy10786, I'm not trying to be rude or anything. But just relax. You will do fine on the tests. With some of the "mental midgets" I've seen driving a truck, the tests aren't that hard. Just relax, prepare yourself well, and you'll be fine. You can take the tests as many times as needed. You just may have to pay the fee more than once. And you may only be able to test once a week or something like that. As far as TMC goes, I used to work there. Almost 17 years I was there. As long as you follow the rules, aren't lazy, and aren't a smarty pants with people, the training there is pretty easy. Show tact, a desire to learn, and don't act like a know it all and you'll be fine. They know it takes time to learn everything. And as long as you are truly putting in the proper effort, they'll give you that time. I miss TMC some days. They really had a lot more on the ball than I thought. Simple things like how they handle payroll and paperwork make the job much easier than many companies make it. They also provide you with a full compliment of equipment to do the job with. I miss that too. No stuffing carpet and cardboard under chains for edge protection. The only real reason I left was because it started getting really hard to get home in South Dakota. And it seemed, to me, like they didn't try hard enough to make it work. As long as I'd been there, it kind of hurt my feelings. I put up with poor home time for a long time, like years, before I moved on. All in all, I still think TMC is a good place to work, with a lot going for it there. If I ever leave South Dakota, I'd consider going back there.

Thank you for the kind words MrEd. I think I'm just very anxious about everything. I'm starting to calm down a little bit now. I'm getting ready to go in to my local DMV to test for the permit.

    MrEd Thanks this.

Well, I passed the Combination test. But failed the General Knowledge and Air brakes test twice. Found out I can take each test twice per day. So I am gonna cram and study all weekend and hopefully pass on Monday. What's weird is, I used the practice tests on this site for the last 2 days. Some of the questions they asked me there were not even asked on here.
