Personally I'd just be smart. Drink when you're off, done with orientation, or on a layover. Make sure when you're getting near a truck you can blow 0.00

    Seems simple enough.

Some companies have a policy, if you don't like the policy, work elsewhere. Not a difficult concept, but recommending someone wait until after they have the job to have a beer has nothing to do with any "sissy down" whatever the hell that means.

It has more to do with common sense as opposed to the dumbing down of America.

Punctuation goes a long way in making your posts somewhat coherent and is proof you are not a product of the dumbing down of America.

Is it difficult to understand that a company will be sent a red flag if a potential new driver is drinking during the hiring process, when that kind of thing will not be allowed on the truck?

They are just trying to cover their own backside before they make a decision to hire someone.
And those starter companies like Swift have a hard enough time without worrying about drivers that have drinking problems.

Any little thing will give them cause for not hiring someone. There is no sense in giving them a big reason.

Amen brother........this all started out with someone asking about drinking at orientation at night in your hotel room
It shouldn't be done if you want a DRIVING JOB pull up your big boy pants and suck it up .......at least until you have the job and your in your own truck

    Lepton1 and KMac Thank this.

The policy of many major companies is "Zero Tolerance". No alcohol in the truck or during a 10. If you get out of the truck on a 34 or home time, that's up to you. However, you better be blowing 0.0 when you are ready to be able to roll. I repowered a load because a driver had alcohol on his breath when he was in the driver's lounge at Swift's terminal in Memphis. He had walked across the street to a bar (that's now closed).

If you don't like cow #### don't work on a farm.
