Well, I would not say easy. LOL. I have not done much internal engine work! I did change one injector in this truck when I could not get it into a shop over the week end.
-
Would have been around that time.

Yes, pulling any injector on an older engine is always risking disturbing the injector cup seals enough to cause a coolant leak inside the engine. Now you have to pull the head off. I would try to get by without pulling them too.gearhead 1956 Thanks this.

I have been reading too much stuff( over my head), LOL about how the fuel made a big change in 2006. We are paying for junk fuel!! And I have had trucks and cars sit before and never had this issue! That's why I spent so much time and money doing other things be for I found this! Has me pissed !

Curious, with all that I have read, what is the cranking RPM? Also, there is a valve in the fuel pump, which can hang up and cause your exact problem. Were it me, I would pull the pump and suspect the problem is within it itself, it is a 150 psi constant pressure gear pump, sounds to me, based on past experiance to be your problem. Good luck, take care.

I checked pump pressure on the line out of the pump going to fuel rail. had 25 psi cranking and over 100 psi running on starting fluid. The Cummins spec's I read said 25 and 125? So my thought is the pump is ok?? I also pulled the internal filter in the pump, it was slimy but no debris. I think cranking rpm is around 300.

Any thoughts on my compressed air idea!
What will brake down the tar in the tanks? I have scooped some out and nothing in my garage has any effect on it!?? -
It won't light up on 25 psi, the difference, is with the ether it jumps the cranking RPM, plus the Kaboom, which I have rebuilt numerous engines due to broken top rings. I still have a gut feeling based on experiance and what you have shared, a problem with the pump, just my humble opinion. I have been out in the field and had one of the fuses in the harness on the LH side at the rear of the engine failed that can also contribute to a hard start, yet usually, ether will not start them, if both are failed a case of ether will not start one. Good luck, take care.

I will keep that in mind.
I think my next step is to keep running injector cleaner through the pump and injector rail till it clears up.
Then put new fuel in the bucket and tri starting, may have to use starting fluid!
When I ran it on starting fluid before, I could tell it was only running on the fluid, no fuel at all!
