You hit a low bridge and you still have a job? The correct course of action is to kiss his feet and praise his magnanimity.
x1Heavy and CrappieJunkie Thank this. -
Ok
I'm going to be mean so don't take this personal.
First off put where you are in your profile. It helps us help you.
Second do you have a cdl?
If you do ... follow the instructions below.
If you don't ... follow the instructions below.
Document everything, have copies of your settlements and any other employment info.
Go to the state labor board or if you can't find them, call your state's attorney generals office to get the right info.
Find another job at the same time file a complaint with the labor department so they can go after the owner.
If you have to, contact the IRS too about the taxes he has missed paying for your employment, see what they say.
Here is why.
You are an employee, if you are being paid as a 1099, he is cheating on his taxes and you are protected under any state law from the deductions he is making.
He has no contract with you - I assume - and because he has none, he can't deduct a thing. Once he has deducted anything, he made you an employee.x1Heavy and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this. -
Theoratically the empolyee can deduct everything, including wear and tear on a 200K equiptment? /Typical over dramatizing but bear with me...
-
...Always the best solution.
Mine's 13'5" empty.CrappieJunkie Thanks this. -
Being a yard dog I really aint got to worry bout height. Except 3 doors at the plant. To get to them you have to pass under part of the conveyor belt that sends products to the warehouse. Im not sure how tall it is, but we have to lower it a lot without dragging the landing gear.

hit a couple miss marked low bridges in my day, never fired, never paid for it.
never worked for a mega either or 1099.
been doing this for over 30 yrs. #### happens, just don't let yourself get screwed after it does. -
For a short time in the 80s I ran for a real fly by night operation out of nj.
I mostly hauled trash to delaware on a walking floor trailer
One day they gave me a box load going down 206
I knew of a low bridge on 206 so I called the company and said, you sure I can make that bridge?
The guy said, oh yeah, we do it all the time.
I shrugged
And I didn't make it
I called "the guy"
He asked what tractor I had
I told him
He said, oh hell, with that tractor you're 14'2
But they didn't really care that I had tore the roof up.
After that, they'd send me to Boston with loads of insulation.
I'd cringe and duck all the way up 95
And I'd hear tick tick tick scrape on the bridges.speedyk Thanks this. -
Be real careful in Jersey different lanes different height.
Rusty Trawler Thanks this. -
Does he have insurance? If he does and is making you pay for the damage, he is committing fraud and is looking at prison. Get you to a lawyer.
