Considering all the hostility you can see and hear at any truck stop in the country I don't think CDL holders should be allowed to own gun's PERIOD

    Concurred.
One of the first things you learn in Judo is to close the distance. Maximize your ability to strike while limiting your opponents ability to do the same.
After you take their legs out from under them... school enters session.

I don't own, nor really want to own a firearm. I'm old-school give me a fist fight with a lesson to walk away with, not a petty grievance which will get one of us killed.

I have the Colt doube eagle SA/Da The slide fit is "loose enough" that it doesn't swell up enough to jam.Of course I,ve never shot 500 rounds in 2 hours!

You are aware then there are about 6 specific strike points on a man or woman with which you can take a life.

Personally I cannot fight much anymore due to a variety of very good reasons, but loved it back in the day. A blade or weapon makes up for the self defense shortfall if that time ever comes.

As far as the poster who claimed hostility in the truckstop, I ask this. What the sort of places are you showing up in? Some stops are really bad. Try to get to some nicer stops. The Original TA southwest of Atlanta comes to mind.

First of all, with all due respect, there is no "Wild West mentality" in the US with guns. 11,000 homicides at the hands of guns doesn't even rank when talking about preventable deaths. That's straight up hyperbole and overreaction. We are a nation of 320 million (abouts) with guns at every corner of society. Take away gang shootings, suicides, and accidents, it doesn't even touch 5,000 deaths. Do the math.

You act like guns are some dangerous item that will jump off the rails and start shooting. Like maybe half the country is killed every year. I hope you are as enthusiastic about smoking, cars, heart disease, and around 20 other categories that rank ahead of guns.

Let's be real for a second. Guns are loud, scary, and used in movies to portray violence. That's why you think the way you do. On top of it you're from a state that creates a boogie man perception about them. Half the politicians in the US make it a cause simply due to the fact that their base likes, well, a cause. Screaming at McDonalds or Marlboro won't work. Too many of New Yorkers and Californians indulge in it.

You used the words common sense. I asked you what was common sense about a constitutional right being picked apart by a government on the verge of turning against the people. You have no answer.

I completely agree that people need to understand the seriousness about firearms. But you've been clear in this thread, you are a silent / semi (we call them fuds) "anti gun" American that's bought into the propaganda about it. And you aren't alone.

Your explanation about "common sense" actually makes no sense. Most, if not nearly all, gun crimes are committed by gangs, accidents, and suicides. Take those away, you've got less than 1,000 deaths by gun out of 320 million people. So tell me, where is the "Wild West mentality"? Where is the "common sense" that you have dreamed up? Common sense should tell you, using the data we have, that there's NO GUN PROBLEM in America. There's no reason to think we need "common sense" in any regard to firearms. It's an issue that has been created by A: Hollywood and B: government.

So id suggest that YOU need to use some common sense.

I'm glad that you aren't an anti gun idiot that so many in California fall victim to. But being from that awful state shows that you too have a misunderstanding.

There is no issue with guns in the US aside from gang members and people looking to kill themselves. Law abiding citizens have absolutely zero problem understanding the seriousness of guns, and I take offense to an American placing blame on them. You will pray for one of us to be around if the Western European American governmental wing has their way, and only a criminal is between you, your family, and being alive.

Gun owners have been statistically proven to be the safest people on earth. Any area that has the highest gun registration has the safest communities. Tell California to enforce the laws, stop allowing criminals back on the streets, stop allowing illegal immigrants to cause chaos, and stop politicians from diluting the truth. Then you might understand "common sense".

This object really gets to me. I've lost someone close to a criminal, and me, my family, and my fiends / all American gun owners, are your only broken bridge between freedom and a government telling you what you will be.

Remember this statistic. 11,000 gun deaths total, including suicides, gangs, and accidents. Out of 320 MILLION PEOPLE.

Let's talk about "common sense" now.

For the record, you seem like a good dude. I mean that, I agree with a lot of your points about understanding the laws. But we both know, you take guns to a higher position than tobacco, Taco Bell, and perception drugs that, it just so happens, Californians rank among the absolute worst in abusing.

My point is stop the faux outrage about guns. You are from California, and that state is near the worst at creating a mythical fear mongering about guns. There are far, FAR worse problems in America. Guns don't even scratch the surface.

    / rant

And because of that, gun owning Californians are my favorite types. Willing to look past the propaganda and are smart enough to see the reality. And really, I salute you. I couldn't comprehend using a bullet button on my AR-15's or abiding by those insane laws. But you do it, because you are a LAW ABIDING CITIZEN.

I understand family, roots, and love of state. I seriously respect guys like you.

For the record, my family runs the largest gun show in Tennessee, I nearly own 100 firearms, and my grandfather laid on a field, in France, shot 9 times and captured by the Germans for my rights. I know it's a truckers forum, but I take this subject more serious than my own health. Forgive my posturing.

Do what you do man. But as a favor, get those west coast boys in line. :)
