I have had my own operating authority for the past four years, but things haven't gone so well in generating revenue the past six months or so. I have been accepted to lease on to Mercer and was looking for some feed back from O/O with similar experience. I have talked with one who was very happy to suspend his authority and lease to Mercer and is doing very well. I have read another thread from Jaqeisi23 (my apologies for misspelling the handle) where he was leased, but reverted back to his own authority, yet still runs on the brokerage side.

I understand the revenue split between the two (lease 75/25, brokerage 80/20), but other than that does one have advantage over the other? For those who chose the lease side, how difficult was it to give up your numbers? What did you experience during the first month or so as you adjusted to Mercer way of business? Are you happy you made the move, or did you eventually go back to your own DOT number? How has leasing affected your operating costs (insurance, fuel, etc)? Just looking for some honest answers before I get into the pool.

Keep your authority and become an approved carrier for them. You will still get the fuel discount :) etc. If the Mercer brokers Do not have a load you will be stuck like Chuck. At least you will have the ability to get freight if Mercer comes up dry.

I went with option one and voluntarily revoked my authority. So far I am not disappointed except for the fact I have to have an ELD. But my operating costs are down as I use their insurance ( cut my insurance bill in half), fuel discounts are way better than what I was getting from WEX Fleet One or even the other two companies I leased to in the past. Revenue is up and I am staying just as busy as I want to be. Plus the wife is happy she has a lot less paperwork to do and less call to make. Oh, and she really enjoys that we get paid within 24 hours or less!

Am at crossroads too of keeping authority or leasing on with someone, at least for a couple of the trucks....not because of revenue, because of the time & work involved. Anyone have van experience with Mercer? We are an approved carrier but have done very little as they don't seem to have much van freight. Just looking for good company to possibly lease on with.

I would not do van at Mercer. In fact if you are flatbed with Mercer they strongly advise against it. Many of the loads are from other carriers etc etc. Basically its a mosh pit that the other carriers can pick from also. Many of the loads are not even good loads.

So, you DO NOT recommend going VAN with Mercer? I am planning to go there in the van division. Do you have any info from the van division or know something? How they run? load board? pay? etc etc... Thanks buddy. God bless and be safe!!!!

I see mercer stopped with the quality carriers trucks entering, so my question is would I just have to go out on my to try and get a truck to lease on with them?

Yes. They don't care how you get a truck. They stopped the deal with quality cause the no down payment walk away lease got to many idiots that don't care, don't know Jack, and don't want to put in the effort to learn. Loan mountain is a good option if you don't have A credit.

When I first started I went van didn't like that option so I went flatbed doing great now...as for the quality truck I have one...I'm doing good..I agree with the statement other drivers screwed that up..it will be a year in January I'm not having any issues with the quality truck.. hate they don't use them no more.
