The "full service" restaurant industry in general, not just at truck stops is having a hard time. All of the major chains in that biz, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Chili's OUtback, etc are declining in store year over year sales. And independent restaurants are hands down the riskiest business of all, a large percentage of them don't make it 12 months.
The bottom line is the public doesn't want to spend the time or the money for what used to be an enjoyable experience. And truckers are even more pressed for time, ELD's are going to kill them off completely. -
We stopped at K H last Fri. Cat scale pulled the scale out. Said it wasn't making enough money since the Pilot opened. The pilot scale is a pain to get onto. The scale at K H was easy.

I'm with you 100% I feel especially sad when I go past the remnants of old truck stops I used to enjoy. Especially along I 40 through NM and AZ. And also along the 20 in west Texas.
Occasionally I discover a great one like The Woodhull travel plaza in western Illinois. Then there's the one in Lincoln Alabama, the TTT IN Tucson AZ, Circle B in Junction Tx. There's still a few around.
