Just started in the trucking world after 20 yrs in the Army as a Human Resource guy(NCO). Im going through the steps of getting on with Irish Express. I know it's a flatbed company, which is what I wanted, something I want instead of sitting in a truck and just dropping and hook. Can anyone tell me alittle about the company and anything about flat bedding? Seems like a good small company and down to earth, but I know everything comes with surprises. Being ex-military taking what I get isn't a problem but not trying to get the #### end of the stick either.

If something happens it doesn't work out with Irish Express, check Keim TS. They're headquartered in KS and have nice studio sleeper trucks.
Anyway, best wishes on your new career. Trucking is a great career.Knighthawk3 Thanks this. -
yeah, flatbedding is adifferent animal. Securing the load is very important. Securing the load PROPERLY I should say. Most of the time, customers are happy to see you, unlike van freight. You don't deal with lumpers either. Other flatbedders will help you with tarps etc. And there's a sense of pride when you roll into a truck stop with an impressive load that is secured properly. Because not everyone can do it.

Yea, I understand that. I heard flatbedders had a certain way about them. Glad others would help if needed, that's my biggest things, the proper way to secure the loads and how to ensure the weight is right on the trailer. I may be just starting out, but even in the Army, I always wanted to make things right the first time and safe. My biggest fear is not having a secure load, have a feeling I'll put more straps on than needed just to be sure.
Also, what the best clothes to have for flatbedding? Heard overalls might be the best, any suggestions? -
I am curious about this company. 7 years in the AF as an aircraft mechanic separating in a few months. Please post updates about your experiences with this company if you can.

I'm still in the training weeks, but no issues so far. They take care of their trucks and seem to have a good crew from the ones I've met. Some are aliittle distance, but I think that's because they don't want to get to close if you don't stay. If you're getting into it, make sure you can handle being away for a week or two. Its long hours and you have to be a self starter. This isn't a cushy job, so don't try here or flatbedding if you're weak minded.

any updates on the company Knighthawk3

Hmmm, couldve sworn i put in a statement a few days ago, guess it didnt take.
Yea, the company is great, they keep you running and not sitting alot. Most I sat was maybe an hr waiting on a new load, but I was in a area where good loads are hard to find. They work with u on getting home, and they have good trucks. been real good, even tho flatbedding does suck when it comes to tarping and the load is different sizes. haven't had any issues from the company, pay is always on time, and the days keep u busy. they leave u alone for the most part, let u pick ur route and get there best way possible. dispatch guys are good, even if one of them is a grouchy old man, but hes a good guy, just doesnt BS, with u. straight to the point. if u do want to come to this company tell them chad sent ya, recruitment bonus and all!! -
"Irish Express" Something makes me think their alcohol policies are a bit more "lax" than most companies...

And welcome to the wild world of open deck freight.
