she sound like an employee. If your taking % from her loads she books. Also telling her she has do things like get loads the way you set things up. She can only get loads from companies you have a relationship with. That's an employee not independent contractor. I'm just saying you might want to fix that and pay her as an employee

You don't think many newbies as well as veterans have demanded something at their companies? All that gets is if you're not happy then find a company that will make you happy. Now if the entire company United as one that would be different.

I have 1 truck, 1 trailer, 1 driver, 1 salesperson, 1 dispatcher, 1 safety overseer, 1 payroll manager, and that would be ME.

Never been happier in this industry. Too be honest with you it's really not all about money for me. It's about control and independence.

    God bless the U.S.A.!

She has the right to be paid as an employee. Her pay does not change either way. 1099 pays her and she does her own taxes. W2 requires us to use an accountant. We have an account who does our taxes and we simply deduct the cost of doing her taxes from her revenue stream.

Now we get to the point of who pays for Social Security. By law, the company does. The reason for that is to hide the true cost of Social Security from the employee. We don't hide anything. She will see what is being paid out. But she will also know that in reality she is paying both sides. She is making all the payments because she is the only one who brings in revenue.

Sales folks bring in customers but if a sales team has set up 3 new accounts, no money changes hands at that point. Nothing is owned to the company until the driver delivers her first load.

As we grow our drivers will learn how to do the business themselves. They will be able to leave at any point and start their own business. They will have the knowledge and experience to be successful. Any support staff, including the owner of the company, will have to earn the right to have the quality of employees we "create" each day.

And if any of your drivers get hurt on the job they are screwed because you are to cut rate to call them employees and pay workers comp.

We always have a few around who think they're 'THE Driver'.

They never last long yet somehow the company keeps doing better.
