Most Americans don't read foreign news or business news, so aren't aware of that. Most oil field pipe has a China connection even though some of it is manufactured in Texas, the company is Chinese owned. China has also built many factories in America such as a tire factory in Georgia. If I remember correctly a factory in Oakwood,GA exports chopsticks to China.
Those low wage factory jobs that went to China were then outsourced to Vietnam and a couple other countries. Chinese owns the factories and management is Chinese, but the rank & file blue collar workers are from the host country. China pays taxes & creates jobs in the host country then the profits go back to China.
It's a global economy and supply chain network and cannot be reversed.
The only way to help Americans is to deport illegals so Americans can have those jobs.
How much will wages increase for new Co drivers when Trump repeals NAFTA

On the money.

And, those jobs that we've lost, aren't coming back anytime soon.
I lost my factory job in 1982, from downsizing. Then they went bankrupt. (kodak, remember them?)
But at least, perhaps, we are at a turning point........... -
Or we can try voting in a president whose primary objective is putting us back on a legal currency. Until we do that nothing will change
-
Didn't Kodak relocate part of their operations to Florida years ago?
-
Is that where they make the Instamatics now?ncmickey Thanks this.

Increases in wages means a rise in the the cost of living in every area. unless the increase is significant, it won't matter.. a rise in oil profits means a rise in cost per gallon at the pump. a cycle all to familiar
Deport Illegals? How many Americans will take part in jobs like working in the fields following the harvest seasons? The Block Robert, n3ss and OnTheEdge Thank this. -
The bulk of illegals come in via air conditioned buses at the various crossings and that can be stopped pretty easily. You can't build a wall along the Rio Grande and its various huge reservoirs used by US sport fishermen and recreational enthusiasts. Just can't happen and protect wildlife and livestock water supplies that are mostly non-existent except for the water flowing down the Rio Grande in Texas.
The wall could be easily built in NM and Arizona and California, forcing those more determined to cross along the Texas border which will be bad for Texas.
The best answer is more use of high-tech surveillance means, aggressive capture and detain and repatriate policy (use the military if you have to), and a demand that those countries [these people are from] accept them back into their country upon an immediate deportation, with no associated demands. If that means 4 full 747s a day, then that's what we do.Last edited: Nov 14, 2016
A21CAV Thanks this. -
There are very few jobs held by illegals that American born citizens would even consider doing.
In 1998 I sat in a corporate meeting where the topic of discussion was the shrinking work force in America. The birth rate in the US is not large enough to sustain our society so the only hope for us is an influx of immigrants. Mexico is the best source because those who come here only want a better life and want to be Americans whereas many others want to do us harm or carve out there own private societies here.
NAFTA will not be repealed, modified a bit perhaps.
As far as ending imports from China or elsewhere, won't happen. We no longer have the work force nor infrastructure to manufacture these goods.
Like it or not we are a global economy now. -
Kodak is still around. I loaded at a plant in Colorado a couple years back, ad last month delivered a load in Reno at a warehouse.
