First, the first rotation on startup of my C15 Acert is hard, like it almost doesn't want to start. Getting past that first rotation it starts right up. I tested the CCA on each battery. They are rated for 950 CCA and 3 of the 4 tested at that. The other was just over 700. Does this sound like a battery problem or something else?
Second, the engine had a gold kit put in 8000 miles ago. If the engine isn't warmed up to 160 degrees it stumbles on acceleration onto the highway and blows a grey smoke. After 160 degrees it runs great. Any ideas on this?
Thanks

Mine was doing that on my N 14. Replaced the starter and now it cranks fast and starts right up.
Duckman1005, truckerNoob and ShooterK2 Thank this. -
Look at oil, see if it is a weird color. Are you having to add coolant? That hard start kinda sounds like you have coolant leaking into a cylinder and trying to hydro lock. That smoke you mentioned is the coolant burning off. Since you just had an inframe done I bet you have a headgasket failing from improper liner height or a bad head. Cat heads have been having issues with the reman and castings. Another thing it might be is a starter getting weak. Hope for the later but I betting not.if it is coolant get it fixed pronto. You can bend a rod trying to start it with coolant sitting on a piston.

The answer lies in the smoke

Starter won't make the engine smoke and studder.wore out Thanks this.

Guys I think the second question of his is that the engine is in cold mode. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my acert will smoke and stumble if I don't let it get warmed up properly once I hit the road in the morning. It won't do it all the time but sometimes it will even cut my turbo boost in half till warmed up too. Once up to operating temp it runs great.
Did you check and clean all the connections? Is it possible whoever did overhaul didn't get something hooked up right or is loose?truckerNoob Thanks this. -
Take the gueswork out off this story and take oilsample.
Have it analysed.

Talking about the rough starting part of his problem Einstein...

Oil looks ok to the eye, sending a sample to OCS (have their bypass system). I did the water bottle bubble test to check the head gasket and I had no bubbles. Oil and coolant levels are staying steady. I'll do some more checking while i wait on oil sample. And I'll test the starter.
