    Day 7:

Not everyday can be a great day, right? Well, it was again a pretty good day!
Today, I drove for a while, then it was another students turn.
After lunch, we went through the 90 and offset backing techniques. We both had 2 turns doing the maneuvers.
I drove back to the school and doing so I made a great turn. The instructor said, "The way you made that turn was beautiful. The right gear, checking mirrors, watching the SUV next to you. It was perfect."
So, in all I'm proud of myself for coming a long way.
Great day, great night. You all stay safe out there.

So, I'm not used to being noticed, but when a guy walks up to you to thank and shake your hand for something, you know you are doing right(this discussion). Did not catch his name, but he made my day pretty good. He started in the same program that I'm in!

    Day 8:

My morning started out like every morning. Shower, hotel breakfast(which is really good), and a smoke with the guys.
While doing so, the gentleman, that I talked about above, came to see me. Pretty good day starting!
Once we took our morning assignment from the Fox Valley Tech instructors, we went to the Roehl terminal for what they call the "Roehl Way".
Its about driving to protect the other drivers. Not defensive driving like most are taught. The class was to make you think about the other people, not the "four-wheelers". I have to agree with this concept as I do have a family. It makes you think like a professional driver and not like another person with a CDL.
If you have a family of your own, please let that sink in a little. If you don't, think about people you care about being in that car.
I guess what I'm getting at, is think about how your driving that 50,000 to 80,000lbs. vehicle. I would appreciate it.
After that, we had lunch and worked on more backing. That's all vie got for the day and remember be safe, stay warm, and until tomorrow! -TenGears

    Day 9:

So, I finally had a rough day. It wasn't bad in anyway, but lets just say my Popeye Leg is starting to burn.
We went half a day of doing backing procedures.
The rest of the half we drove up and down the interstate and through the city.

All new people reading this I have a few things to mention. First, bring plenty of cash. About $150 or more. That should cover groceries and daily expenses, unless you like eating out every night.
Its getting hard on me as I brought $75, and I bought 1 carton of smokes and groceries for my room. I have spent about $12 on fast-food.
That's all I have for today. Definitely, an early night for me! Stay safe!-TenGears

Do they check BP every time or just heart rate? Do you know what the max numbers are? Considering starting with Roehl early next year so I'll be following along. Thanks for the updates!

Max heart rate I believe is 160. They take blood pressure, but only in the beginning.
You should start with them and let them know I sent ya! -TenGears

Just your heart rate and its determined by your age and sex. As a 27 year old female my max number was 174. I had to do the break.

Hey Ten, thanks for the updates and info. I am in contact with a recruiter now and it's looking like I'm going to start the Monday after New Years. I'll be with the dry van division as well.

I got a few Qs if you dont mind answering.

I know its 3 students to a trainer but how many students total in the class?

How did you get there? Flight/Greyhound/Commute?

How is the hotel? Just curious on this one honestly.

Keep up the updates and I'll definitely be following.

    TenGears Thanks this.

I too was very impressed with the whole "roehl way"
Philosophy. Now four years and two companies later, I still drive with the same principles and values they taught me. And it works. Driving through congested areas and such, I never have the anger and impatience that many other truckers display on a daily basis. I thank the roehl instructors for that. I wish more drivers were taught with the same school of thought, the roads would be so much safer and overall more pleasant.
