Easiest thing to do is what you already did and purchased an antenna analyzer. Now that you have that you don't need a tuned piece of cable to see if your antenna is resonant.

The problem I had with the lmr240 coax was that the pl-259 connector was not deep enough to make a good connection at the radio. Drove me nuts trying to figure it out because the problem didn't become obvious until a friend mentioned it and I compared the new coax with the one that was being replaced. My radio is a Stryker 655 so I don't know if you have the same issue with your Cobra, but it's easy to check.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
it's funny you make mention of this because i had compared the 2 and noticed the substantial difference.
and guys lol i'm not a radio technician. i'm a truck driver. i made one change in an otherwise perfectly functioning cb system. it's clearly something with the coax and appears to be the connectors as noted. i do appreciate the help but as stated earlier - keep it simple. -
I know your pain. Been through 3 different antennas and had the radio checked by a shop. SWR is way high. So, leaning toward the new coax being crap. I got it at Pilot. So, I'm sure it wasn't quality to begin with. Someone needs to point me to a good quality coax that has the removable ends (if possible).

Any real shop should know about "FME" connectors, or should be able to order them if they don't stock them. They do take a bit more delicate touch to install the female ends, but a little practice & a decent crimp tool will make short work of it.
Happy hunting.

How much power can you put through those crimped FME connectors?
-
good question.. many years ago when I ever bought that type coax I made sure that fme connecter was not on there.........
-
How much power can RG-58 cable handle?
That's your answer.handlebar and bored silly Thank this. -
Seems logical until you look at it deeper.
