If you have no passion for trucking and it is all about the money you're more likely to go down the path to ruin. I never trusted people with no passion for the nitty gritty of trucking that were only interested in money. You look at newbies who come into this industry all starry eyed who leave it washed up and dreary after only a few weeks. Almost every one of them were drawn by the lure of money. Even many of those who claim they always wanted to drive a truck and had the passion couldn't deal with trucking and quit in frustration. It's not a business for everyone.

There is no way you could be dissuaded by what's said here. I'm just obsessed that the staff on the bed might shift, might move, straps/chains might snap etc. If you feel strong, go for it, that's how people succeed, going against the grain. You always find a good trucker brother at the nearest truck stop or better at the place you're loading who will show you, and I mean wholeheartedly, whether you secured the load properly. Just mind that it is more demanding than van/reefer, without necessarily that much better financial reward proportionate to the extra effort. Maybe it is best to lease a stepdeck for a few months, try it out and see how it goes without being committed.

Everything is about money man. Born in Europe we come to america to survive. As a forgeiner most of us make moves to survive and have enough money to support our family and enjoy life. Where we come from we have never passion. Most people where we come from live by having few cows and making milk and beef and that's how they survive. Nothing wrong with American mentality but I have a different mentality. I gave up law school because there wasn't enough money even tho that's what I always wanted to do.
I really believe brokers have a short span life going forward and asset based guys will be in demand more than ever. I want to be there when that happens: -
Of course everything is about money. What I'm telling you is from what I see of the losers and winners out here. If you're hungry then you have passion. But you may have missed even that is no guarantee.
What do you mean no money in law that's the craziest thing I ever heard. Public defenders don't make much. Corporate attorneys do very well. Local area lawyers around here are all politically connected and loaded. Lawyers make bank if they have brains.Ruthless Thanks this. -
While I admire your work ethic, I don't know how a person who has no passion for trucking can make a living of it. I'd rather do something I love, and not make a fortune, than to do something I hate but makes a lot of money. Think about it, in your life, you'll spend most of your waking hours working. So I made the choice to do the work I love. Just so happens I can make a pretty good living at it. Win/win.
What I'm saying is: I'd rather look forward to work every day and make a decent living, than to be a millionaire but dread work every day. -
No they don't. I have family and friends. Corporate lawyers come from tier one law schools who pays 65k a year to attend. Average Florida lawyer 2015 made 44k. Supply and demand. Lawyers don't retire until they are in thier 70s. I have my bachelors in pre law and taken my LSAT. Not enough money in the profession. Also outlook isn't as positive.

You make a good point. Growing up we were taught it's all about money not passion. Kinda stuck with me . But I'm 25 I guess I can take that risk sir. I 100 percent get your point tho.ShooterK2 Thanks this.

I have worked for a couple of owners where it is all about the money. Here is where the issues start.
Lack of proper maintenance
Refuse to replace chains or straps
Refusing to replace tires
I could go on and on. When it starts being about the money other stuff suffers. The first thing to suffer is always safety.Ruthless Thanks this. -
I left a company that had no concerns about safety, was making bank, but when people get killed or maned you have to question the integrity and character of the owners.

I pull a Landoll with dock levelers. I can load from the ground or dock with manipulation of some levers. At $90k and a high empty weight though, it wouldn't be feasible for most.
