    The Washington State Patrol says Highway 211 is blocked after a semi-truck with two fuel tankers overturned just south of Usk.

    Troopers say the crash happened about nine miles south of Usk and the road is fully blocked. Troopers say both trailers ruptured, approximately 9,300 gallons of diesel. Initial estimates of the amount spilled were 11,000, but the Department of Ecology now believes it was about 9,300.

    Initial information is that the driver was distracted by a 6-week-old puppy he had in the cab with him, turned into a ditch, over-corrected and then flipped. We are told the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. We are told the puppy was found in the woods after the crash and is ok.

    Thats crazy, 6 weeks is too young to be taken away from his mom and bros and sis. I hope they dont mandate not allowing pets on trucks. I have a german shepherd who as a puppy started riding with me; how this puppy distracted this driver so much that this happened is beyond me. What a way to lose a job. :{

    Good thing the puppy is ok, he'll need something to comfort him when he realizes he just ended his career.:eek:

    I didn't think pets were allowed on trucks that only pull haz-mat.

    Diesel isn't hazmat. I don't think. I used to haul bio-diesel and none of those trailers even have a slot for placards.

    And at the risk of sounding like a prick. I hope they do mandate animal laws. Animals don't belong in such small quarters. And i personally, don't like driving a truck full of animal hair.

    I have dogs, but don't take them with me and don't allow them on the furniture at home. I have one very run down couch specifically for them.

    Bio-diesel may not b hazardous, but a tank trailer full of diesel requires placards.

    Beyond stupid driver. And I don't think banning pets is going to pop up, although someone in authority will mention it. Then someone will respond that he has to have his "comfort animal" with him or he can't handle the stress of the job. And the band plays on.

    I came up on a serious accident many years ago, just as bad as this, all caused by one of the drivers who dropped his cigarette on the floor and was reaching to pick it up.
