I saw a newwe truck for sale with a nine speed. I thought people would only get 10 or more speeds.

Some companies spec 9 speeds that can be converted to a 13 later. Truck with a 13 are worth more.

Some companies buy factory fleet rigs with 500 hp and 13, and detuned them to 450 hp and a 9. When they're ready to sell, the put the 13 back. But then, I sure as heck wouldn't pay money to be the owner of a fleet truck.

I wouldn't worry about it being a 9 spd. When i first started driving 9 spds were very common. For some reason back then 9 spds seemed to shift nicer than 10 spds l found.

I have used mostly 10 speed. The spacing of the gears between 8,9,10 is too great for me.

The truck I drive mostly is a '95 FL, 9 speed. It works well enough for what we do. I do like the lower low gear over the 10 speed for tight spaces and hard spots to get took off.

Most likely a convertible transmission. It a resale value thing for megas. Have them send you a pic of the decal that shows the engine trans and rears. The 4 letter code the trans starts with will tell you if it's convertible. I think it's around $500 to convert to a 13 speed, but that's easy to negotiate when you're buying the truck.

They had more of a step in the lower gears, what I drove was geared faster in the low side than a 10 speed.

Rockwell wasn't convertible to a 13. Drove a 99 FLD that had the cruise control buttons in the shifter knob, nice setup with a 9 speed or a 10 speed.
