I'm with wore out on this. When I first started trucking those transmissions were around. A lot of the guys that had them complained about the gear noise, splitter shifting and the fast reverse. Most guys only used the high gear when they were empty or light. Most referred to it as the "going home gear" this was in the mid eighties to early 90's. Tandem guys got away with them but the guys on the heavy board usually had 8LL's or 15's

So you think it's a bad idea to put it in? Is there a newer 13 speed out there that has a .62 od or something similar?

    I believe there is a rtlo with around a 27% over drive I think it's a 7th Gen

The RTLO will end in .73. Honestly with 3.70'sand tall rubber your looking at 85mph and like 1650 or 1700 how fast do you need to go. Lower Rpm does not equal fuel milage with that much overdrive.

Have you ever driven a 4 cylinder 5 speed pickup?

Honestly yes. I think it is and its only my opinion, but its a downgrade in more ways than one. Like all the rest have said, they are weak, noisy, and your gonna HATE that reverse gear.

Spend your money wisely on a RTLO series 13 speed. 18913 or 20913 would be a good choice. Exspensive you bet, but overall shifting and reliable perfomance is far superior and the gear noise wont drive you insane like an RTOO. I think the rtoo likes to run warm on a hot unless you have a really good cooler.

Really these are the do everything and anything transmissions. Youll love it over your 10 speed
Great selection of gears for any predicament.

They told me it was a downgrade when i swapped an RTLO16913A for a RTO14915od too. Been one of the best moves i ever made, to drive, fuel mileage, the whole deal. Keep in mind those are the same people telling us we really need a 13L Paccar not a 15L Cat. You know..

A .62 is just flat out too high of a gear. It's a different world today. The roads are to congested to be running at 90 mph, the risk of that speed today is much greater than it was 25/30 years ago. Not to mention the fact that no longer do ya just pay a fine and get it changed to a non moving violation. If you use that top gear for what it was designed for you won't have a license very long. And if you aren't gonna use it, then what's the point in putting it in.

For what it's worth that 15 ends in a .79 ratio. It just isn't an apples to apples comparison
