I got my CDL a year ago and made it a year with my starter company, a refer-only division of a mega.

Miles were pretty decent (though never great) up until a few months ago. During the summer I was doing 2500-3000 miles weekly.

Now However, In the last 2 months I've been getting consistently less than 2000 miles. The typical week is 1500-2000 miles. I'm not sure what it is, haven't done this long enough to know if its a seasonal slowdown or something else.

I pretty much never take a day off. I'm a loner type, no friends or family to be away from so the OTR life isnt too much of a personal sacrifice for me. This quarter, I worked 90 days straight and still failed to achieve the productivity bonus of 30,000 miles for the quarter. I averaged less than 300 miles/day during this period.

Been putting up with a lot of BS loads

--200 miles loads where I put in a 12-14 hour day and make less than $100.
--300 mile loads with 3-4 stops at the end that takes 2 days to complete.
--Make a delivery in the morning, then sit at a truck stop until the next day for the next load.

I'm willing to go anywhere all 48 states with no restrictions and stay out for long periods of time. I feel like I'm being under-utilized.

I've been talking to a few people, some suggest options open up more after the 2 year mark instead of just the 1 year mark.

There is so much BS and lies from recruiters of so many trucking companies, I'm not sure what to believe. I don't want to jump ship and end up in a similar or worse situation than I'm in now.

Have you talked to your current employer about your dissatisfaction? If you've proven yourself a valuable asset and threaten to leave, maybe things will change. If they don't give a crap or say things will get better but don't then I'd take that as a tip to try something else.

    Where is your domicile location?
One year experience is plenty; time to move on to a company that has consistantly long runs.
    Holland Enterprises Inc.
    Danny Herman Trucking

Normally 1 year+school equals 2 years of experience for insurance reasons. Each carrier is different though. Like @STexan mentioned above you need to talk to your dispatcher, and see if they will correct it before you jump ship.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

I've communicated my displeasure with my dispatcher. He's a great guy, but its a big company and I things are just out of his control with the bureaucracy.

    STexan Thanks this.

I rent hotel rooms on my rare days off. I am a loner and no real connections to any particular place. I could go anywhere.

Then go above him... Dispatchers are trained to calm drivers down, and keep them from jumping ship. Request to go by the terminal, and just ask directly for the terminal manager. Praise your dispatcher, but explain your issues. The people on top can always correct things if they want to.

Which state is your CDL from?
Both those companies I listed have long runs. Danny Herman Trucking doesn't run northeast or NYC and neither does Vankampen Trucking or South-East Carriers.

    Lepton1 and Slargtarg Thank this.

I think Lessors Inc. hires in AZ. Good outfit and nice trucks also.
