More important than oil brand is clean oil. And do oil sampling and then learn to interpret the results. I am currently using Valvoline Premium Blue Semi Synthetic 15W40. In the past I have used Rotella and Delo. I'm not sure it matters any more than how I take my coffee should matter.
The wheel dolly allows you to remove a set of wheels and the drum all as one unit. Handy for doing wheel seals and brakes, but you can get by without one.
As far as the pressure washer goes there is a big difference between a pressure washer and a steam cleaner. Try to find a equipment rental place near you and see about buying one of their old units. They can be found at auction for a lot less than you would pay new.
And now that I think about it, the coffee does matter more than the oil...hot and black. No cream, sugar, flavors or ice...because I'm not a teenage girl or a soccer mom.
I want to be hands ON, how?

Y'all can't laugh at a poor boy trying to get by. I had a butane 40 gallon hot water heater hooked to a pressure washer one time. Naturally wouldn't run all day, and wasn't as good as the steam cleaner I have now but we made due.

Fredy's the owner. It's not much of a shop to look at, but he has three good mechanics and does the bigger challenges himself. He has quite a few years driving experience himself, pulling flatbed.BigKountry and Old Man Thank this. -
TMC books. Trucking maintnance council. Full of info. Could read these for days. Set of basic hand tools, grease gun and a flash light go far. Spend some free time just looking at stuff and under it. Ive been truck mechanic way longer than a driver and trust me. Over the years I still found equipment, or types of equipment that I had never seen. Just study it and some reasearch you can figure it out. BTW If you have a good mechanic locally or shop/parts department that you buy from. A box of doughnuts may get you all kinds of advise or help. Have that relationship for a back up. Or a
Mechanic that may come out and help you on a sat/sun for cash. The job will get done and you can learn from him. But like others said you are one step in the right direction because you see a problem and your asking how to remedy the situation. Good luckBigKountry and Lepton1 Thank this. -
I'll add the steam cleaner and wheel dolly to the list of things I'll be adding to my shop this upcoming year.
Also driver, I'm sure the truck doesn't care which oil it receives as long as it's getting oil. That goes for coffee also!
Thanks! I can't wait until I'm 20-30 years in this game to see how far I've progressed.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
BTW, I will be bringing the Freightliner Classic home this weekend. It needs TLC, but I think the money spent on it will be nothing compared to the wisdom I'll gain from working on it.
Klleetrucking and Lepton1 Thank this.
